In part 2 of the RMC commuter project layout(Feb '18,pg 58),they based the"White River Terminal" on a 2 level station, that was DL&W's Downtown Buffalo station, with the passenger platforms up top and the freight, express and mail at ground level. The prototype station had many more tracks then the 2 track station on the modules. Some club module standards may not allow for different levels of track away from the mainlines, tried to think of another station. A possible better prototype could be NYC's Getty Square station,a branch off the Putnam division main at Van Cortland Park. That was a 2 track station with a 1 car express stub track, that had a multi story building built on top of the of the station. While the article shows a 2 car set of MLV's at the platform, it might look better with a 3 car set if the platform is extended and the power was pushing the set.
To get the space needed, building 2 6 foot modules(12 feet) should provide the space. The club I'm a member of has a standard of 4 feet long as the minimum size,a set of modules should be a multiple of 4 ft to allow easy planning on how they would be in a setup.(We have a small stash of 1 foot and 2 foot "gap filler" modules, used as needed to maintain decent room behind the modules at a setup).

Been brooding on part 3 after reading the article, this is another pair of modules that should be 6 foot long(the pair will be 12 feet). The Custom Model RR's "compressed" BWI station has a MSRP of $127.00,suggest you download the instructions and read it carefully, before buying the kit. You could go eithor low platform or High platform at this station or use an island platform,as an added attraction, install a side track long enough to park a pair of RDC's or a 2 car shuttle set used for off peak service on the "branch". The tower used on this layout might be a "tip of the hat" to a CNJ tower, this is a personal pick here. As an option, use a couple of "Portable offices" as a temporary tower, the junction is about to be controlled by the DS based at White River Terminal.
Been awhile, but came up with an idea of using Walter's Pella station as an option, using low level platforms and crosswalks to cross the tracks. The station is large enough to built for a major "town" outside of City Limits.

The use of the base of that "BWI" station as part of connecting 2 modules together, throws in 2 more connecting tracks that're not really needed. Structures spanning between 2 modules is done in the past, but NOT with the mainlines tied to the structures base, unless some form of "indexing" is used to keep the tracks aligned across that base to the tracks mounted on the module. IF there's room next to the 1 stall running repair shop, run a track next to it for a little more storage space for the shop switcher/work train power with a couple of ballast hoppers and a caboose. On a as needed basis, cycle the ballast hoppers on the local freight for reloading. Remember that switcher doubles as the "go fetch" relief power as well.

Gladstone is the end of a NJT branch line(Gladstone Branch)but did not have much of a "business district" close by(a Deli seems to be a 1/2 block away from the station) A look at a google based sat view, shows the yard are has expanded somewhat to allow a few sets to layup at Gladstone. New Canaan Ct seems to fit more what RMC is trying to do,an end of branch station where nothing lays up,just heads back to a yard at the branch Jct (Stamford Ct) New Canaan's lone freight siding was buried in the trees(a lumber retail yard),it's switch was just east of CP Cane that controlled the enterance to the single track back to Stamford.(Branch was CTC controlled by Stam tower back then) There was a Station track,a siding track and a short (freight)house track with wire(good for a triplet of M-4's) New Canaan had 2 thru trains to GCT in the AM,and 2 PM thru trains from GCT,the thru sets had the M-2 bar car pair PM rush at New Canaan started with the Shuttle arriving at the station, discharge the passengers, then move over to the house track to wait About a 1/2 hour later, the first thru train,8 cars(4 pairs)discharges passengers, then moves over to the siding track to wait. After a 3/4 hour wait, the second thru train arrives, discharges passengers,20 min later, become the local back to Stamford. After that train leaves,10 min later, the other thru set leaves as a deadhead back to the yard. another 10 min wait, the shuttle heads back to Stamford and possibly waits in Stamford yard limits, for that set that left first, to clear the stub track used for the shuttle at Stamford station.
The New Canaan business district surrounded the station there.

There's a nice article in the July '18 issue of the UK based mag "Model Rail",pg 32, on building a Modern Station,a single hi level platform. Could be used at "Flagstone" on the RMC display layout. A simple weekend project to build,as an option, would add a 20 ft container as a "part time" ticket office to sell the "monthly pass" commuters use at ground level, not sure on what to use a "ticket vending machine" for other passengers. The on platform shelter is Scratchbuilt, but using parts from DPM(Woodland Scenics) storefronts or from Smalltown USA's Talltown modules, you could kitbash a shelter.
