The HO scale Listing of Amtrak Models thread seemed to spark everyone's interest, as did the FUTURE WALTHERS NAME TRAINS poll, so I figured I would make a poll to see which Amtrak models everyone wants to see. These are models identified on our listing as models that have never been done accurately in plastic before. Voting Rules: If you want, you can vote for every item! However, in order to get an accurate picture of the demand for each model, only vote for the ones that you would really consider buying for yourself. For me, I voted for the AEM-7AC and the Metroliner Cab Car. These would be two no-brainers for my layout. The Ex-Metroliner cab car would need to be in Phase IVb like they use on the Keystone Service. Two models that I considered picking were the ACS-64 and the Viewliner II. I think these may still be a bit too new for me, even though I have been out trackside to see both already. Give it another year for me to get used to them and then I will probably want them. That, and if I had a little larger budget.  |

Amtrak/ConnDOT SPV's,might be a long shot,but they were part of the early history of the NEC.
Pacific Parlor Car,to do a proper Coast Starlight consist.
Viewliner II's to update my Lake Shore Ltd consists
P30CH,part of Auto Train's and the Sunset Ltd's history.
A proper P-32DM with the 3rd rail details on the truck sideframes.

SDP40F, hands down (flat nosed version). I spent a lot of time seeing and riding behind the prototypes (even got a cab ride on one occasion)!

The rumor on the street is that you're going to get your wish pretty soon from Athearn. I was thinking of you a few months ago when Walthers released the Penn Centrall Metroliners. Thanks! Yes, I am. I really hope that Athearn gets those six axle monsters correctly. But I am a happy camper. Same with the Metroliners as Walthers did release the patch-up PC version. The rumor (and I will probably get silenced permanently for this) is that from my hook at Walthers, Athearn will be producing the SDP40F, there MAY be some collaboration between both companies for a future Walthers name train featuring an early 1970's Amtrak consist with Athearn Genesis SDP40F's (Coast Starlight). My Walthers friend has never failed me (or you guys!) yet.... but as always, things are always subject to revision even after a manufacturer commits to a model.
Expect an announcement from Athearn later this year.
NOW while Athearn and Walthers are competitors, they have come together in the past for special edition / exclusive runs. This is mainly due to the profits that would come in for both companies. I also want to point out that Walthers will be introducing another type of passenger station platform/train shed soon. From what I hear it will be loosely based on Chicago's Dearborn Station. This also shows their future commitment to passenger equipment!

Well the FL-9,F40ph,NPCU(powered,no less)are or about to be done in HO model form,
the ACS-64,and SDP40F are or about to be done in N scale.
While some of the MW cars and Cabooses have been done,I will echo mittrains request of a
proper wire train,believe 1 of the European manufacturers has done a catenary "track machine"
that can be modded to what Amtrak and MN uses now.
The missing link on Amtrak's MW side is the massive "Track Laying Machine"(aka:TLM)used on the NEC,
loaned to MN for New Haven Line trackwork,and now about to rebuild part of the former NYC main
"rescued" from CSX for the Empire Corridor service.
Maybe Bachmann/Sader-Kan or 1 of the remaining Brass manufacturers might do the TLM for
BIG $$$$$.

Still looking forward to the SDP40F from Athearn....HOWEVER, I strongly hope that Athearn will resist the temptation of doing the "Pointed Nosed" version only and be willing to produce the "Flat Nosed" version which constituted the majority of the fleet.
Since Athearn will likely be going with Soundtraxx, I would likely purchase two non-sound units as I prefer LokSound decoders and from my understanding, the Leslie S4T/SL4T horn scheme is available from Loksound which is the first type of horn the SDP's were equipped with before they were gradually swapped out to Nathan P5a's.
I would also go gung-ho over a P30CH!
