Funnily enough, someone just asked Jason about this on the CanModelTrains Yahoo group. His response does not lend much promise to Rapido doing a P42: "Seeing as there are already two competingf P42 models in the market right now, I'm not keen on doing a P42. But I'll tell you what. You can have the first accurate VIA P42DC for $97,000 ($97,100 with sound), and they are $225/$325 each after that." Someone needs to get in Jason's ear and let him know there is definitely room for one more MFG to do the P42. There would be a mass sell off of Athearn & Kato P42's if Rapido was to announce a "definitive" P42 w/DCC & Sound. After all, Bachmann, Walthers, OMI, PFM, & Life Like have all done the F40PH, and I can't even count how many companies have done the F7.

Let Jason run his own business, OK guys,He has enough things(models)in the pipeline for now. Lets see if there's intrest after the release of the RDC's,F-9'S and the APT-E in the UK Believe that price are his costs to do the research needed, tooling, and whats needed for ESU Locsound to create the proper decoder.

Keep in mind that NJT is the only other non-fantasy passenger carrier AEM7/ALP44 that they are running in their latest release of Amtrak AEM7s so the liscensing fees may have come down for NJT or Atlas feels it's worth while, especially for an ALP 44 which is NJT-only.

I agree with Backshopshoss, however, I would kindly suggest to Jason to do a P32AC-DM rather than introduce a THIRD version of the P40s/P42. Let Athean and KATO have that. Hopefully he would duplicate the successes of the FL9 by modeling its predecessor which would have six (and now it looks like seven) liveries. I wouldn't knock him if he's hesitant either. I'm prepping to buy two undec bolt-on nose P40s and kitbash additional P32AC-DMs with the next Athearn run.

Good point. You can't really sell a ALP-44 model without doing NJT . SEPTA does actually have one ALP-44, and it is the only remaining operating one in the country today. However, I'm not sure that would be a top seller!! Nice P32AC-DM rebuild! I remember seeing that on your website as well.

I was wondering what you were talking about until I saw this today: It looks like Amtrak's Phase III crossover continues... (I found the photo on the Amtrak Unlimited Forum) I think that this increases the odds of any manufacturer doing an P32AC-DM. Special paint schemes especially draw in buyers. Take the SD60E for example. I don't know much about this loco, but I would bet that it would be a hot seller due to all of the special schemes NS has applied to it.

Wonder if the "plan" is a "rebrand" of the NEC services?

Amtrak's Beech Grove Shop got the Rebuilding contract for all the ConnDOT P-40's,NJT sold their P-40's to ConnDOT. 3 ex NJT units and 2 "patched" ConnDot unit are at Beech Grove NOW,all should be repainted to the ConnDOT "X-box" scheme.
