Seems like we just celebrated Amtrak's 40th Anniversary, and here come their 50th in 2021.
Within the last 10 years we have gotten some new models that we never thought would be made (SDP40F, Metroliners), improved on favorites (F40PH, Amfleets, Horizons, AEM-7), and brand new models (ACS-64, Charger).
Anyone willing to guess what models might be in line for the big 5-0?
My first guesses should be obvious for manufacturers....
A Genesis quality P42 from either Athearn or Rapido with hopefully more Anniversary phase editions. Another run of Proto Amfleets & Superliners. Much needed upgraded Viewliner baggage, diner & sleeper. Plated Heritage cars for Phase I, II & III
My 50th Anniversary wish....
California Cars P30CH A Proto or Rapido quality Amtrak E8-E9 without the portholes in Phase I & II

Well, some more Amtrak additions are coming soon.
Walthers just announced the Phase III & IV Horizon cars under the Mainline brand. These will have factory installed diaphragms. No word if they will have interiors or lighting. Also they are re-releasing Proto Amfleets I & II in Phase III & IVB (no Phase IV though). And also under the Mainline brand another run of F40PH's in Phase II, III and IV, and more Budd cars....in Phase IV??
Bachmann has a full dome car coming out in Phase IVb.
Rapido has a Phase I Pullman Diner hitting the streets in a few weeks.
Plus, a possible surprise announcement coming from Rapido in a few weeks. According to a Facebook Live program they did a couple of days ago, we might possibly see the re-release of some of their old products, such as the steam generator cars that they produced a few years ago.

Lets hope without the "moveable coupler pocket" on that full dome(based on ATSF "Big Dome") None of the cars were on the website when I checked, just the Rapido lines Last attempt at a P30CH was American GK/Walters on an Athearn drive. The brass models had crappy drives, shallow details and OVERPRICED!

Add Athearn to the list of new Amtrak models coming out just in time for the 50th Anniversary. They just announced a Phase VI GP38-2 under the Roundhouse Product Line. Definitely could use some more modern Amtrak switching power. Could some passenger GP40's (GP39H-2, GP40P, GP40TC, GP40FH-2, or GP40PH-2) be coming down the pike next from Athearn or Atlas?

At least Athearn has 721,720,723,and 724 to chose from. Rapido is working on the F59 for GOT,and was planning on some of the commuter F40's

There's GOOD news from Rapido, the Rohr turbos in HO will be made! The order book is still open. The Hangup on the EP-5's has been the pans, remember the EP series motors were dual mode, they ran on NYC 3rd rail as well as 11kv/25hz wire!

Well, here's some disappointing news. I just got a reply from an e-mail I sent to Walthers about whether these newly tooled up Mainline Horizon Cars will have seated interiors or an option to add interior lighting.
These will hit the market with no seated interiors, no factory installed interior lighting or even an add on LED light kit!
Why in the world would Walthers not put in at LEAST seated interiors in a highly requested newly tooled up passenger car?
I get the potential of Walthers undercutting Rapido with a cheaper priced car. These will still attract buyers who are budget conscious or don't like bells and whistle models that Rapido offers.
But at least put seats in the doggone thing!

The "Mainline Series" cars might have "tinted" windows so the missing interior is unviewable, should make it easier to install function/soundcar decoders in the cab cars

If the objective was to have a cheaper option that would appeal to buyers who couldn't afford the Rapido Horizon cars, I get it. The street price for these cars should be in the $35-$40 range.
As a matter of fact, because of the fragility of some of the Rapido passenger cars I've come to own over the years, I might seriously consider adding a few of the Walthers Horizon cars as long as they don't roll like bricks.
But really Walthers, how much extra would it have cost to added interior seating in the 21st Century?
I suspect someone is going to make a killing on 3D printed seats for these cars.

Athearn's P42 announcement is a real blockbuster and should be here in May 2021, right on time for the 50th. Rapido also just announced the ex-SP B-100-40 50' express boxcars, 70000-70049. These will be in REA green (as-delivered) and Phase IV:
