I agree. I know it would not happen, but I would be much more motivated if the models were offered in "Undec". But of course that's asking too much since now the factories in China charge just as much to produce an undecorated model as it does fully painted.
I'm sure these new Metros will be a winner, but Walthers isn't making it easy. The "Pennsylvania" schemed units (which by the way, never ran in revenue service) are being sold in expensive sets. The remainder will be in "Amtrak". The Pennsy units are the ones I want since it would be a simple matter of removing the Pennsy Keystones, Alcladding those areas if any marring occurs, and installing the Penn Central worms.
My hope is, although chances may be slim, that some modelers that obtain the Pennsy sets would be willing to sell the units individually or in pairs.
But I'll likely "wait and see".
I understand what you mean. It's great that new passenger models are being released, but at the same time who has the money for all of this?! That's why I think we are all going to be playing the waiting game.

Most if not all of us are getting tired of the "Limited edition" style of model production, it should also be noted thst Walters had to change factories where the passenger car models were produced,Sader-Kan has been taken over by Bachmann,2/3rds of their production is geared to the British and European markets. Athearn got burned when the factory in China went "belly up" and was taken over by the Chinese Government,Atlas is still behind on track production, spliting between O scale and HO scale track.

The "Limited Run" is very frustrating, so is the "pre-order" portion of the hobby. I never pre-order anything. I got burned a few times by doing that. In all honestly, there really is no need to "pre-order", as everything I was after always seemed to be in ample supply long after the "pre-order" period was over. Case in point, the new Athearn Genesis GP38-2 models. The market is flooded with them right now, as far better prices then if I had "pre-ordered" it.

In the "whats OLD is whats NEW again" dept,as seen in Oct MRH, Athearn has announced a "new" run of F-7 A + B units due out April of '14,Amtrak P III paint and NS Exec Paint are the notables. Part of the "Ready to Run" line, may or maynot have the DCC light board installed. MSRP A unit $84.98 MSRP A+ dummy B units $124.98 The road # is 104(per ad) Other than the FL-9's lasting till the P-32 acdm arrival. most if not all F units were done around the early 1980's

I'm glad to see that Athearn is keeping southeastern modelers in mind with their upcoming "F-unit" releases. I hope to get one SCL F9: www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATHG22553The prices, to me, are still ridiculous as it was just a few years ago that we were paying $89 to $110 for new units. But I realize that moaning about it won't help things much.

Most likely had to wait for an open production slot at the factory! Hopefully down the road,Walters will offer dummy versions and the so called "upgraded" version (Roof Blister add on). The dummys would be perfect to create Cab Cars with. Not sure if the DC only models are setup for "plug 'n play" DCC conversion. This would be a "wish list" item, but if both power chassis (DCC/Sound and DC only) prove out as decent runners, maybe a SPV-2000 in Phase II and MNR/ConnDOT versions.

This is good news! I am glad to see that Athearn is putting new effort into their GE Genesis locomotives. They are a good model. I was wondering if they were going to just let the P40/P42 fade out of their product line, which would have been a shame. With a lower price and better details in some areas, some people may argue that they are better than the new KATO engines. If they are truly adding the bolted nose detail as the photos portray they will really be giving KATO a run for its money!!! Also, I think this marks the first time that Athearn has run the Phase V scheme on the P42's without Walthers. Maybe they will make the paint less "shiny" as many modelers have complained in the past. Also, I am positive that this is the first time the P40 has been run in Phase V. This is a great idea IMO. I have even suggested it in the past. Without any new tooling to the manufacturer it gives the modern day modeler the chance to mix up his fleet.

An overspray of Dullcoat or Semi-gloss would kill off the "shiney" of the Walters P-40/42,to me the Walters model has the "fresh out of the wash rack " shine under certain lighting conditions. I almost hate to say this, but the Athearn model is the "better" model then the Kato,Factory orignal or Kobo Custom versions. OK,now the next question ,does anybody on this board run the Kato HO Superliners along with Walters Superliners??

I run a total set of Walters Superliners( all 1st run except 1 of Trans-Sleepers,a 2nd run) that run well out of the box, not sure if any guys at the club run Kato cars. I gather that the Kato Superliners have a glitch of some kind? I have yet to see a review of the Kato Superliners in any hobby press.

I have a set of the katos and I like them, some issues with the ends but I plan to fix that down the road.
