God they're gorgeous aren't they???
Walthers exceeded my expectations with this car, I knew it would be great, but this...was beyond what I could EVER imagine. As you can see here, the lighting plays a BIG role in the sheen and tone of the plating of the cars. I personally will still tone it down 1 notch with the Alclad clear. As I and acelaphillies have said, some weathering... these cars have the ability to win model contests!

They do look amazing! Those are some great photos too, thanks for sharing. I'll try to take some good photos of my PhIVb car in the next few days so I can share those too. For the moment, here's a quick photo I set up the other night to contrast typical Amtrak equipment with the typical VIA Rail equivalent (my main interest). The P42s are both Athearn, the Amfleet I is the new WalthersProto, and the LRC coach is Rapido (with modern decals added). Note: that photo was taken with a flash, and the . Now here's a second photo of the same equipment (attached), but just under the standard room lighting. You can see how much of a difference there is in the degree of shine to the car. I find that looking at it in person in standard room lighting, it looks somewhere in between those two photos. It definitely looks more like stainless steel than painted silver, and it really stands out against the locomotive ahead of it. With a bit of weathering on the ends and underbody, I think it will look fantastic!

Just a quick follow-up on my earlier issue: the replacement truck for my one that was broken arrived from Walthers last week, and got in to pick it up today. I had my LHS contact Walthers directly instead of doing so myself, and they responded and shipped the truck quickly.
The new truck has no issues, so I'll get it installed shortly. At that point I'll also plan to add the appropriate decals that the car needs.
This truck issue seems to be showing up quite a bit from what I've seen online so far, so I'll be sure to check my other cars for issues when they arrive.

Interesting, that Walter's China factory had a QC glitch, you should keep/store the wheels and bearings for spare parts.

This set of photos are done with 1st run Walters cars showing the wheelsets that were painted with rust color paint. Module is the "Twin Arrows" reverse corner after upgrading the scenery and rebuilding with code 83 track

My Amfleet II coach the other day arrived the other day, and I got down to the shop to pick it up - like the Amfleet I, it's absolutely gorgeous. I like the look of the prototype Amfleet II a lot more than the I, and the model lives up to that for sure. I checked the trucks on this one before I left the shop, and there were no issues. And yes, I have added the broken truck from the first one into my spare-parts box in case I need to replace an axle/wheelset/bearing in the future. Interestingly enough, when I went in to pick up that car I noticed that the shop had a used original Walthers Amfleet I (in Ph3), and the difference between the two was quite something to compare. A reminder of just how far along these have come! Now just have to wait for the Amfleet I café to complete my condensed Adirondack consist When I have a few minutes one of these days soon, I'll also get on to painting the interiors, adding extra decals, and maybe weathering these a bit.

Does anyone have photos of the decal sheets on the Phave IVb units both coach and cafe? I am wondering what they included in these sets.

For which? The A-I or A-II Coach and Food Service cars? I believe I have them all.

Guys,Just read a post in RR.net,of a modeler having defective trucks on his Amfleet models, the casting cracked or failed. Walters did replace his failed trucks. This might be a hint there's some Amfleet trucks that were not quite up to spec. Just recently Walters has started to sell spare Amfleet trucks, their #920-2131,MRSP $14.98 a pair.

I got one bad one in the 5 that I bought, and then the replacement one was just as broken. Never did get around to asking for a replacement to the replacement
