There might be a production "time crunch" at the factory Athearn uses,or the other phases sold better than expected.

Just got word Athearn dropped 2 Amtrak P42's from the new production run due in November 2015. ATH88739….. NYA HO RTR AMD103/P42, AMTK/PHV #30 ATH88740….. NYA HO RTR AMD103/P40, AMTK/PHV #32 Don't know if it was from low orders intakes, but not good news. Those were the "ghost lettering" units. My guess is that they just did not sell well. They are a very niche model, and probably the generic modeler jsut wants the typical Amtrak engine. I was looking forward to seeing what they looked like though

Have never seen the ghost lettered units out here, are they used on the Silver Service trains? Also there are 2 P-42's that are rigged for UP's cab signal setup, that can lead the CZ when Detoured over the"Overland Route"between Denver-Odgen,instead of the ex-DRGW route

The decals have also been replaced with new blue ones if I am not mistaken.

Perhaps they were releasing them too soon. It's possible they're re-surface, maybe as different number.

Had a pair of P42's laying over at ABQ,#'s 112 and 172,noticed on the roof over the cab area has been modified for PTC(Believe it's the I-ETMS setup not ASCES)they are with a pair of SC 44's that went testing at the AAR Test Facilty at Pueblo Co. #172 Engineer's side, new sinclair radio ant. and 2 "bumps" that might be sat receivers(for GPS tracking) on the roof, and a ATS "shoe" used on former ATSF routes and by Metrolink in the LA area. #112 Fireman's side, what looks like a "sideways" mounted Sinclair Ant. and the other sat receiver "bump" WSDOT 1404,a SC-44,"B" end, note the roof line is flat, not bowed up like the P-42's roof and a tiny "walkway" to the door in the center Attachments:
