How do you like the lighting? Are the marker lights lit as well? The marker lights aren't lit but I am pleased with the lighting overall. I think the white LEDs are appropriate for the phase IVb car interiors. Warm white would be more appropriate for earlier incarnations. Kyle

Today was the Opening Day of this year's NM State Fair, and the 1st run of a pair of "Blue Box" P42's with my Superliner set, that have been a on/off project for the last couple of years. This Layout at the fair site has been an 20 year project, including a total swap out of a government surplus parts and relays, automated DC train control system,to a Digitrax DCC system with JMRI. Both the Rio Grande Valley and my Club ASHOME help each other out at shows and share members as well. Note:camera in Macro Mode disables flash.

It's been a long and hot Summer here in NE Ohio and I'm finally getting around to getting some more photos posted... Sorry for the lapse Here's a real lineup that would warm the heart of any Amtrak fan! Nothing but SPEED and Horsepower here!!! I like the way the red stripe on the Superliners actually looks like Scotchlite! Happy Modeling, Ed

Still making some slow, but steady progress on the MLRR. The two terminals have expanded facilities that now incorporate motor pits. Hopefully there will be mass-produced ACS-64s in HO that will enable me to replace those HHPs although I have to say they are very reliable unlike their prototype counterparts. I've also managed to install LokSound decoders in my new P42s and P40s. QSI equipped locos are being phased out. The Vet unit hasn't seen action yet, nor have any of the LokSound equipped, Athearn P42s for that matter. 42 will likely be assigned to the Pennsylvanian once I'm finished with writing the code for that program.

How about some layout overview shots? It looks like you've come a long way since the first few iterations.

Looking good! The AEM-7ACs are looking great as always, and the Vets unit looks really nice as well. Was it pretty straightforward to install the LokSound decoders in the Athearn P40/P42?

Noticed that 485 still has the Hancock air Whistle instead of the 5 chime horn that was Amtrak's standard at the time of the overhaul. Not long after the Amtrak Fl-9's were back in service,MN on their overhauled units, started installing that lousy sounding 3 chime horns used on the M-3's and SPV 2000's.

How about some layout overview shots? It looks like you've come a long way since the first few iterations. Thanks slowfreight, I'm certainly in a much better position to get an overall layout shot in our new home. In fact, for that very reason, I'm not in a hurry to share that until the layout is in a much better place. While I have begun to start laying the ground work for the downtown urban area surrounding the terminal (generally representing northeast terminals with a subterranean motif), I also need to start populating the small town area. Both are a new undertaking for me (the wife wants to assist with the latter). I've only laid ballast for one section as well. Needless to say I need to do more work before I feel comfortable enough showing off the layout in its entirety. I'm currently in the process of re-wiring everything for a cleaner set-up as up until now, everything was wired for testing purposes and I quickly moved onto the next thing which left one big wiring mess in the end and GOD forbid if something came loose, then I had a real headache on my hands. This is taking some time away from progress I would otherwise be making on further development of the surrounding scenery. Looking good! The AEM-7ACs are looking great as always, and the Vets unit looks really nice as well. Was it pretty straightforward to install the LokSound decoders in the Athearn P40/P42? Thanks! The LokSound install was a breeze compared to the QSI but the improvements to the Athearn P40/P42 helped a ton as well since they now come with working ditch lights. It takes far less time to do the install as you just drop the decoder into the 8-pin socket. For flashing ditch lights you'll need to splice the blue wire from the 9-pin plug and wire the green and pink wires of the decoder to the each individual ditch light. Good observation. I noted the same and had plans to replace it (since the pre-production photos were released) with a K5LA and replace the Metro-North unit's with the 3 chime horn you described. Both currently use the K5LA horn sound. I like how Rapido made it easy to replace the horns. From reviews, it sounds like the stock horns are press fit into the housing. After market horns may require some reaming of the opening but otherwise fairly easy to install. A little paint just needs to be added.

Kyle,Try using the Hancock sound,it's different from the Amtrak standard, not sure how well the Loksound decoder handled it,the Amtrak RDC's kept them when given to Amtrak. The"Chrome Crankshaft" 4 that worked the GCT-Danbury thru trains were the last converted. MN's first overhauled units kept them(silver painted),but lost them as the steam heat cars were retired for the Comet II(Shoreliner I)cars That 3 chime "wonder" was loud, but sounded horrible, like an out of tune horn section.

The Shoreliner Cars, SPV's (CDOT and MNCR) and CDOT's Chrome FL-9's all had (or in come cases have) Leslie S2M's. They sound awful, but they're louder than the Hancocks. You can hear them in their "glory" here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kdtvq47KiEg&index=1&list=PL97B8A0E6363FA943I haven't checked to see if the decoder has them yet. I've only got an MNCR FL-9 and am waiting for the CDOT style NH one to pair it up with.

Yea,sometimes called the "sick sheep" horn, hated the sound they made! The Chrome 4 came home with their Hancocks intact, lost them in the early 2000's Prefer the sound of the Hancocks over that horn!
