Hi Group- Here's my third project after getting back into modeling. I'm not really 100% satisfied with the results but I sure learned a lot. I purchased the Union Station Products Amtrak CA Coach Baggage sides only. Nice product with great fluting. OK, to the pics The donor. Hacking away. Test fitting a TSP Budd Roof. Test fitting the sides. Assembled sides. Don't look now, but here are the ends that don't really work. Much too dark and shiny Alclad. Prepping for stripes. About 18 months later. Finished. Thanks for looking. Paul

Thanks BSH. Yeah the 8200s are Coach Baggages and the 8300s are the Cab Cars/Baggage. If I build another one it'll be the Cab.

It would not be unusal for the Coast Starlight(#11/14) to haul Surfliner car(s) Between LA and Emeryville Ca. Cars moved(deadheaded) between major station/yards,are behind the locos and and in front the Baggage car. It would be possible(but rare) that Surfliner coaches were open for use between LA and Emeryville for additional coach seating if needed. But would be added to the rest of the coaches.

Phill,
Nice job! BTW: Regarding on "Much too dark". Remember that you can use Alclad 105 to achieve a slightly lighter tone combined with the medium gray foundation. Did you apply a smooth gloss clear coat to the gray surface?

I went with black krylon gloss decanted after reading airplane modelers forums. Got to stick with what I know from now on! Fortunately, this car is in the middle of the consist. I hope to do better with the cab car.
