Glad to belong to a forum that caters to commuter and passenger models. Not many forums welcome our type of building......kinda like the red headed step child of modeling. The freight builders get all the credit.....passenger trains are alot more handsome looking to me.
Some of you may recognize my user name from other forums....yup I am the same guy.
I recently (July of 2012) retired from the LIRR as an engineer with 25 years seniority. So, naturally, that is my main area of interest in passenger modeling.
BUT, I also model Amtrak in all eras, and MTA agency, and really any commuter equipment that sparks my interest (yes I also do freight too).
I am NOT afraid to tackle any modeling project (I have been doing this for nearly 30 years), no matter how big or small. From a small detailing project to a scratch build, I have attempted it.
I hope to share my experience/knowledge/tips/tricks with others in the forum. NEVER be afraid to ask a question!!

Hi guys,
I belong to multiple forums. I model the equipment from the ACL, SCL, and New Haven railroads circa-mid 1960s thru early 70s. I am interested in early Amtrak as far as the SDP40F locomotives since I spent so much time around them as a teen in Tampa back in the late 70s.
My current focus has been metalizing HO and N streamlined passenger cars to realistic stainless steel appearances. I'm one of the volunteer testers for Alclad2 and have been providing feedback to Alclad's owner Tony Hipp. I post metalizing related threads to share info and encourage modelers to give natural metal finishes from Alclad2 a try. In my humble opinion, silver paint for stainless steel models just doesn't cut it anymore.
Bob,
You were an engineer on the LIRR? That is so cool. I lived in NYC back in the 60s-early 70s and as a kid I was amazed at how many commuter pasenger trains ran in Queens/Long Island. (Funny, to my Dad as soon as we crossed the Triborough Bridge, we were in "Long Island", not Queens.) I remember seeing the M1s MU trains when they were brand new. To me they were gorgeous "oversized" subway cars. I didn't get to ride them until I visited NY in the early 80s as a young adult.
I don't know how old you are but back when I was a kid my favorite tv show cop/hero was "Kojak". Came on Sunday nights at 8pm on CBS. Kojak's 2nd in command was "Crocker", played by actor Kevin Dobson. It blew me away when I learned that Kevin was a conductor on the LIRR! Even while he was acting, Kevin explained that he enjoyed that job and was still maintaining his seniority on the LIRR. He was on an extended leave of absence in case his acting career didn't pan out. Apparently it did as he went on to play other roles on tv dramas.
