I'm definitely going to be in Philadelphia tomorrow. To be fair, i was planning to go to the McGuire AFB open house, but it looks like its gonna get rained out. Besides, the Airshow is also on Sunday.
I will post pictures. I should be easy to spot if anyone else will be in Philadelphia, gonna wear my "Ex-Reading" green "CR" shirt.

National Train Day,to me,starts planning in Jan,as the club I'm with becomes the "Host" club at our setup at the Wheels Museum, with the local N scale,HOn3 moduler clubs setting up, the live steamer/G scale club set up outside,2 DC powered Layouts to man and run,and working with NMRX to place ads/flyers on board. Rio Metro/NMRX is the local Host with Amtrak, they maintain a crew base in ABQ,a Superliner Sleeper and Coach from the Coast Starlight pool will be on display with an Amtrak P-40/42(protect unit), The NMRX protect set, possible BNSF Evo 44c4 loco as well.

I didn't see this until now, but I was in Philly today as well. I thought it was an all around nice day! I can post some pictures tomorrow if you guys that were not there want to see. I was bummed that the 10005 didn't make it, but the rest if the stuff was neat to see. For me the highlights were the train equipment and talking to the RR employees.
How did everyone else's day go?

Understand 10004 was at philly, tried to look at linked photos on RR.net,was not able to get thru the "traffic jam" to that site,ABQ had a S-II Sightseer Lounge instead of the sleeper for walk-thrus,BNSF left SD-40-2 1711 for cab tours(1 of the local switchers). Ran my version of #48(Lake Shore) with the Great Dome,100031 tacked on the Boston section. Photos to follow(Loong day, tired, yawn)

Philly seemed a little smaller than usual this year. The theater car was cool, but very crowded. Anyone know why there wasn't a regular viewliner there?

Amtrak needs every avaible Sleeper now a days, passenger loadings are up,there're not that many Viewliner I Sleepers around to begin with, almost the same with the Superliner sleepers as well. Most of the western LD trains need 6 sets of Equipment,2 sets turning at terminals,4 sets on the move, it's about the same for Eastern LD services, roughly 4 sets on the Florida trains, the Cresent. Auto train has 2 sets and a small pool of spare cars in Fl.

Some pictures- Shiny new Amtrak 606.... one of the new ACS-64 Electrics. This used to be an E60MA number. This (Angry face!) will soon be the new face of the Northeast Corridor- ACS64 cab Right next to it was this E8, in its original PRR number. This unit was at one time Amtrak 498, and then most recognizably, Conrail 4020, one of the Office Car Special E8s. Now it is back to PRR, though with HEP and dynamic brakes. Goofing off in the Theater car! ALP46 #4648 ALP46 cab ALP45DP #4511, a Duel powered locomotive similar in Idea to the FL9, but with overhead catenary pick up instead of third rail. It also appears to have two small diesel engines in it, similar to the "Genset" locomotives out there. This thing is pretty big and its black upper body just disappears in most pictures. ALP45DP cab- Inside the cab of an NJ Transit Bi-level push-pull cab car. An Acela Express Trainset was also open for tours. Dissappointingly, the Atlantic City Line trains north from Cherry Hill to 30th Street were cancelled, so we had to take the free bus they offered (except we already had tickets for the train...). I neglected to take pictures in the morning, but it was a typical mix of GP40PH-2Bs, such as #4210. I did grab a video of #4210, but I will post it all later. On the way out though, I was able to snap a poor shot of Amtrak 931 (i might be able to get good screenshots from a film of it I took). This locomotive and the ones like it will be amongst the first to go when the rest of the ACS64s start appearing en masse. #931 is an AEM7 "DC", unrebuilt and increasingly unreliable. #931 was delivered to Amtrak in 1981, 33 years ago, the same year the AEM7s pushed the GG1s out of service. At the Cherry Hill NJT station, the trains were lined up fro the trip south, including this 21 year old P40DC, #4802, ex Amtrak 810. Four P40DCs were purchased in 2007 for the "Atlantic City Express" (ACEs) train, a train that was almost direct from New York to Atlantic city with specially rebuilt (and expensive) Comet Bi-level cars. The most interesting part of this train was that it used an ALP44 electric on one end, and the P40DC on the other, so that it didn't have to change power between electric and diesel on the NEC. The train has been discontinued. I don't know what became of the special parlor and bar cars. A second train, headed by P40DC #4801, ex Amtrak #808, waits just next to the rail bridge over Route 70, to the south of the station. I assume it is empty and waiting. Comet V cab cars seem to be on the head ends of all single level push-pull trains these days. a collection of older NJ Transit coaches make up the rest of the consist. In the background, the "Cherry Hill Race Track" used to stand. In the PRR days, there were many special trains here and even a special horse car unloading track. I took a film at this location as the train departed, I'll have to see if I can embed it. After the train department, a pair of work equipment became visible. The signal shows Medium Clear.

Great pics,I see Amtrak followed tradition by placing the air pressure gauge and speedo near the seat the "boss" sits. Is the ailse to the rest of the car in the middle? Seems like the walls are painted in an off white color. It seems the ALDP-45 and the ALP-46 have almost the same cab setup.

I'm not sure why, but there was no LD stuff at all. In the past there has been Florida service stuff in Philly, but this year there was not. All the Amfleets were Amfleet I's as well.

Nice pictures everyone! I am uploading mine right now...
Cab4, to answer your question, the ACES multilevels were flooded in Sandy and have since been converted to normal NJT cars. All but one have had their seats changed and have been renumbered. I am not sure what they deal is with the other one (it may be 8800?).
Did they not run the ACL service into Philly because of NTD?

The aisle kinda zig zags a little, since there are two "rooms" in between the theater section and the vestibule section. The "divider between rooms goes from the left with the aisle passing to the right side of the car, but its still an "open" car on the inside. It makes sense for those engines to be the same, probably reduces the amount of spare parts they need.

Apparently, they were doing repair work on the Delair Bridge, and/or possibly work on the new Pennsauken station.
