Looks good! I have yet to really explore JMRI, but it looks to be a very powerful tool.
Do you plan on eventually having JMRI automatically operate some of your trains?

I'm gonna look into it, would be neat running a prototype time table

There's something in JRMI known as "Museum Mode",a form of automated running. However, the Java langauge and JRMI have evolved to 64 bit versions. Also,NMRA is about to roll out something called "LayoutNet".

I'll have to check that out. I'm using CATS, Computer Automated Traffic System. Its a program built on top of JMRI: home.comcast.net/~kb0oys/

I'm using CTI-Electronics
Before MLRR 3.2 was dismantled it was operating my MARC trains almost completely on its own (save some manual turnout operation). The same for Amtrak Northeast Regionals.
I'm in the process of integrating the turnouts now on MLRR 4.0. I can't wait for this to be complete. It will certainly make multi-tasking around the house as well as work on the layout much more efficient!

It looks like there are more options for computer controlled railroad softwares than I realized. I think that these programs suit passenger/commuter modelers especially well because the high speed and high density operations make it a little more challenging to run with all traditional operators.
For those of you that are using computer automated technology, what method do you use for your block detection?

For those of you that are using computer automated technology, what method do you use for your block detection? I totally agree! Perfectly suited for passenger train ops! I use current detectors for block detection. Cti has a version for both DC and DC. It's perfect but most costly sensor short of the rfid tags
