With Rapido's Bus announcement, believe the time has "arrived" to think about the scene around the passenger/commuter train. And the related buildings/vehicles. Best way to figure out what to do next is this Poll,it locks on 07/31/16 unless extended. By "Major" station, any major city, including related buildings, yards, etc Town station, where Amtrak or RR LD services stopped. Flagstops/minor stations, aka "Podunkville USA" with a 1/2 car/1 car platform,"well aged" condition wise Express service related Facilities Passenger car yards and related buildings, engine house, car shop, fuel racks, etc. Combined Amtrak/Commuter Service stations,"upgraded platforms",etc This can reach back to before Amtrak exisited. Layover/Storage Yards, the "outer edge" of commuter service yards, where equipment is stored overnight/weekends/holidays might have "ground" power/steam to keep equipment ready for use,a building used a a crew "office". OTHER,describe in thread post Related vehicles used in the scene.(Cars,trucks,buses,taxi,etc. OK gang, have a go with this. Thanks in advance.

From the outfit that make laser cut kits of modern Fast Food joints,Summit-Customcuts,comes a kit of a Amtrak station,in use at Lake Charles La.(LCH) It's a brick building with a metal roof with few windows, an unstaffed station, and somewhat Hurricane "proof". The kit is laser cut wood with plastic parts, approx 7"x 3"x 2" size in HO scale,MSRP of $49.95 www.summit-customcuts.com

I think adding some other passenger-related facilities to your layout really helps to enhance operations and get the passenger trains out of the "roundy-round" mode. Freight trains are fun because the operations get complex...we need to do the same thing with the passenger trains--especially commuter trains.

I certainly would appreciate east and southeast "town sized" station structures with architecture that would make it flexible enough to model modern Amtrak as well as the pre-Amtrak era.
I definitely plan on having autos, taxis and buses (including my current Busch GMC fishbowls, a Greyhound Scenicruiser, and definitely a few of the new Rapido Fishbowls" in my scenes.

You might be able to use Walters "City station"(933-2904) or that "Dinner Belle" station(933-3470) as a base with a little "kit-bashing" if needed Depending on the "town's" size. The "Yard Office" kit (933-3517) could be used a a"replacement" station building in some towns. The "brick" version on the "Mission style Depot/freight house could be used in Midwest settings(933-4055/4056). The "Pella"Depot(933-4054) is a brick design, the UP style depot(933-4057) is a wood design.

Walters has announced a "modern"(circa 1954) Santa Fe passenger station, based on the Hutchinson Ks station used by Amtrak on the SW Chief route. MSRP is $59.98
This is a station that serves a large town in the south central Kansas.

Even now, stepboxes are still used,Rapido now has a HO stepbox that would work with Superliners and Amfleet cars, in the "Streamliner era" and Heavyweight cars. There're still some commuter services that use low platforms.

Walters over the last year, came up with a "new" model of an elavated Commuter station,it's modular,so more than 1 kit can be added to make longer platforms. (Walters #933-4563 MSRP $39.98) Made for 2 track mainlines, could be modded for single track if needed. There's no ticket office of shelters at track level,a station bldg could still be in use at street level. Or Built into the embankment tunnel like as done in Springfield Mass or OKC city.
