Today,Amtrak started the detours for the Empire Service trains to GCT and the Lake shore running via New Rochelle and the Hellgate bridge to reach NY Penn while A interlocking gets a total rebuild. For now only 3 round trips use GCT with a hybrid Push-Pull set bracketed by a P-32DM on the north end and a P-42 on the south end. The P-42 has been modded to control the P-32's mode change to 3rd rail power near 125th st heading in/out of GCT.

Yes you are correct. I did notice the P42 on the south end of the train. Surprised they did not use a cab car on the south like Metro North does. I guess it is easier for the other engineers.

All the Metroliner cabs are on the Keystone service and the Springfield Shuttles,NPCU's are too big for GCT and NY Penn. At least 2 P-42's got modded at Albany, reportedly 3 P-32 DMN's have been fitted with MN style 3rd rail shoes and are fixed in place, normally setup with "fold away" LIRR style shoes.

There will be a round 2 this summer at NY Penn, an added twist is that the DV bridge needs repairs due to leftover Sandy Damage and a boat striking into the movable span. Almost all trains will run into GCT,Lake Shore Ltd is to be reportedly rerouted to Boston South station for the summer Change trains at Albany to get to NYC via GCT, Trains 448 & 449 get "summer vacation" this time.
