Some of us may have "older" HW type cars (Athearn blue box or "Model Power" type cars) that are stored for use later on or have changed plans to more modern operations, and have "retired" the HW cars, may have some "Vintage Steam/Diesel Locos" stored as well, how about using that to create a "Fantrip" train, that runs as a passenger extra! About 2-3 years ago, there was a article in MR about creating/ running a "fantrip" on a model RR. It included rebuilding a Gon as the open air car,now Bachmann has an open air car in the Catalog. FYI,not all the cars have to match paint scheme-wise as well ,as an option some "modern" 1st class cars are on rear end of the train.

Yes, adding a PV (Private Varnish) to the end of a modern Amtrak train is actually a relatively common occurrence.

On certain routes,it is,there are some routings it rarely happens however. An AARPCO convention is just about the only "Massive" gathering of Pvt cars. The upcoming M&E Trip on NJT has some Pvt cars. I'm thinking along the lines of what UP/Southern did in retaining just enough cars for use in excursion train service/PR moves/Operation Lifesaver events,etc.....

I have been kicking around an idea of a "Dinner Train" using a some HW cars painted in "Rio Grande" gold/silver,with a F-3 or RS-3 as power,a combine as extra food storage/crew lounge,Diner,a coach as an "waiting area",and finally a OBS for "super" 1st class service or private parties. Possibly an Express or Box car as a power car for the fridges/freezers in the combine, diner and OBS Might swap the coach to a 44 seat LW car. Thinking along the lines as how the Napa Valley Wine train operates.(Very slow,15-25 mph) AS of July 19,the powers that be at Train X are about to revive the Santa Fe Southern tourist train as a "Dinner Train" between Santa Fe and Lamy here, and plan to bring in cars to run this. Waiting to see if this "gets off the ground" and happens
