That noise is certainly an annoying aspect of this modern technology. Makes me miss the NY MTA classic Redbirds even more.

Well, I finally ran the GG1. Took it to a friend's house who has a working layout with an NCE Powercab set up. I didn't try to make any adjustments.......just wanted to hear the "music". The sound was actually quite loud (although not as annoyingly loud as BLI units). The horn is the classic Leslie A-200 honker with a very slight reverb. On the playable whistle (short toot) the reverb is nicely pronounced. The bell sounds like a brass version and is nicely pronounced. All sounds actuated with the push buttons on the controller but I noticed that the blower fans would kick in randomly. I don't know if that was due to the DCC controller or if the GG1 is set up that way............ but I liked it!
The directional lighting worked and the metal pantographs have a tight spring to them. Be gentle when moving them.
Overall, I'm a happy camper and am looking forward to seeing if she can haul at least 11 Walthers streamlined cars.
