As the Holidays are now approaching, extra cars were added to trains and in some cases, extra trains were run to handle the demand. Some of the older cars, sometimes from commuter fleets were added to named trains and some of the secondary long distance trains Pullman would pull from storage yards older section type sleepers(Mostly HW cars),along with lounge(Parlor) cars where Pullman did the service. So the use of older HW cars on the #1 train of LW sreamline cars was acceptable during the Holiday season.

While not a holiday train, service to a game site like PRR did for the Army-Navy Game or along the lines of what NJT did for Super Bowl 48(the Super "Blowout" ) might be a fun way to add extra passenger trains to operating session. An other reason to pullout some spare coaches out of storage.

Excellent idea! On my layout I usually add two mail and express trains. Other passenger trains get an additional car or two. In addition to the Holiday traffic increase another way to add some more passenger traffic; The Penn Central ran specials from Boston to Foxboro and back for the Patriots games in the early 70s. NYC ran some college football specials transporting teams and fans.
