From "Black Friday"(Thanksgiving in US)till a week before Christmas day,Santa will some times ride the rails to an event or an "On Board" type event, with Santa doing a "meet n greet" with the kids. Clinchfield RR started a Santa train that would pass out candy and small gifts while moving and at stops along the way. This train has been continued by CSX,most Commuter operators may pick some weekend trains on a Saturday to have Santa ride along, and of course,Santa "bumming" a ride on the local freight (or the all stops local psgr train) to take up"station" at the local shopping center/Major retailer(Macy's)till the big day.

This was a stock AHM Cafe-Obs that sees duty time during the season, with Santa and "freinds" on board. The Conductor and the Rear Brakeman are watching in the background. The wreath was something grabbed at Michell's craft store, cut off the hanging loop and drilled for a pin to hang it on the railing, got rid of the red fringe, rewheeled the trucks with 36" wheels, installed KD-5's,and populated the interior as well Attachments:

Well it's that time of year again,Santa is making the trip to the Mall again, and listening to the kid's wish lists...... Santa Fe had a caboose painted white with green lettering, doubled as a Safety message "billboard". The caboose was based at San Berdoo and wandered around on the locals based there. The car was a "blue box",now RTR line Athearn(and the only car stuck with plastic "McHenry" couplers the body shell was glued on in China ) MDC(Roundhouse) did a special run Express Reefer, for Egg Nog Duty(non alcoholic) For wreaths and other decorations, use the "Tiny Tree stuff" from Michels/Hobby Lobby. pics to follow.

This is just a thought,to use as a reason to get express reefers into town for package express service for X-mas,have them loaded with cut X-mas trees for sale around town, unload the car at the Team track, make sure the cars is clean and dried out, before setting the car out at the express dock, or post office dock for loading!(ice can be sprayed/spread on top of the trees to keep them "fresh")

The "Polar Express" movie has become a TV Holiday tradition, from scanning thru the HO scale threads on the "Atlas Rescue Board",Lionel has "entered" the HO scale market with a scaled down from the O scale version of the "Polar Express" train, with "normal" lack of detail to boot. Pricing is at the current "Plastic Brass" $249.99 MSRP and reportly has an R/C control as well!! Reportly has a "quick plug" to allow swapping out the factory decoder for a decoder of your choise. A 3 car set has a MSRP of $149.99. Extra cars are priced at $49.99 a car! Believe this is aimed at the Thomas/Chuggington age group. For info: www.lionel.com/articles/newsstandAn update; On pg26 of the Nov'17 issue of MRN is a review of the Lionel's HO version of the Polar Express, the "Lion Chief" Remote and the 60 foot passenger cars
