First off, hello all and glad to be here! I would like to give a big thank you to Backshophoss for telling me about this site, I never knew it existed.
Many of you know me on the Railroad.net forums, so I already recognize some screen names. A little about me:
I'm in my 30's and am employed in law enforcement in NJ. Besides trains, I enjoy cooking, wines, traveling, boating, hiking and railfanning. I am a firearms armorer for many manufacturers in a private and law enforcement capacity (luckily I am good with my hands!)
Okay to modeling, I have enjoyed modeling passenger trains as well as operations for as long as I could remember. For me it started when I was a young boy and I saw an Amtrak commercial on TV, I can STILL see that image of back to back F40's with matching Phase III Superliners. Needless to say, I was hooked. Luckily I had parents who were supportive of my hobby and took me to the Elizabeth, NJ train station to see them up close and personal. Many fond memories of new NJ Transit Arrow III's, E60's, AEM-7's, Metroliners (the actual train), those big Florida trains mixed with new Amfleet II and Heritage cars, ah the memories.
That in turn, forged my preference in passenger train modeling (and lucky enough to have ridden all of Amtrak's long distance trains) as I grew older.
With Rapido's attention to passenger cars, granted most are Canadian but it pushed the envelope even farther for everyone. Just take a look at Walthers' Amfleets. There are some minor flaws but they are BEYOND what I was expecting. We are now in a bright new era for passenger models.
While I model mostly current Amtrak (Ph IVb), I have a soft spot for Phase III, so I always get some models in that scheme anyway. I would love to create a consist of an accurate 80's Florida consist with the new Amfleet II's, a proper Heritage Diner plated as well as 2 10-6'a, a Slumbercoach and a scratchbuilt Baggage Dorm. Maybe 1 or 2 ex-Union Pacific smooth side coaches.
For bilevel, the mixed in Hi-Level former ATSF cars in Phase III (Coach-Dorm, Coach, Lounge) with regular Superliner I cars always intrigued me as well. Perhaps pulled by a Pooch or accurate F40!
Well glad to be here, looking forward to posting some of my superdetailed Amfleet cars, just waiting on a few products to arrive.
Graphite (for the wheels)
Proper interior paints (the Phase III A-II Coach will receive the proper red seat interior)
Some Alclad stuff
More Sergent Engineering tightlock couplers
End door curved grab irons
The emergency exit placards that are on each car end on both sides of the diaphragm (luckily I have access to Amtrak's emergency guidebooks for Police/Fire/EMS at work) and was able to copy the placard directly and scale it down to appropriate size, waiting on custom decal paper.
Once again, glad to be here!
Tom
