Hi guys, since Daniel already has shown my Cab Car #9800 in this thread, i would like to show you the other cab cars i have built in the past. I never needed them really, due to the lack of a layout and Milwaukee locomotives taking most of the space in my train room. The first one was a Phase 3 car, #9648, with Ditchlights, shown here on my long gone fremo modules: Second one, again Phase 3, #9633, again with ditchlights: The third one, unknown number, again Phase 3, but an early version without ditchlights: And last but not least, a Phase 4b one, #9634. This was the most detailed, equipped with a Digitrax decoder and LED lighting: The Phase 4b decals are custom made, i still have them in stock if someone is interested (picture was made in Everett street, where the car never appeared sadly...)

Nice,
I started a Metroliner Cab car ages ago, but never finished it. One of these days, I'll have to do that. Now that I've got a lot of the Proto Metroliners, I can probably convert my old bachmann ones to cab cars en masse. On the other hand, it may be wise to wait and see what Walthers does. they might make a cab car version.

The only drawback to the Bachmann shells is the underframe ,reuse the old frame ,or build a new underframe with the needed detail parts for conversion to HEP from EMU.

The only drawback to the Bachmann shells is the underframe ,reuse the old frame ,or build a new underframe with the needed detail parts for conversion to HEP from EMU. The way I figure it though, is that you'll have to make up your own underbody regardless until someone makes a Ready Made version. The underbody details on my Bachmann Metroliners are held in by screws, and they should be pretty easy to remove. Then again, I own the first run Metroliners, so yours might be different depending on when they were made. Once you have a blank slate on the bottom, the only trick is figuring out how to simulate it all.

The frames I have are the "well" version, where the weights hide, could pass as a SPV-2000 underframe.

The other day a freind of mine gave me a pair of Amfleet I coaches, both ph I,had track tested the Metroliner cab car a week earlier with not so great results, planning on installing the brass tube fix to improve the rolling quailty, was using the "cluttered" metroliner underframe. Had just started converting the Amfleet I to body mount couplers, shell was off,and had the other underframe(the cab car's)close by ,popped the shell off and compared the truck "towers" wheelbase was the same between the 2 frames, put the cab car shell on the Amfleet frame, it fit needing a quick notching to clear the cab tabs, the shell is about a 1/4" longer then the Amfleet frame.
So any Bachmann Amfleet cars that show up at the swap meet, can be used as the "new" underframe of a Metroliner cab car conversion! :-)

Here's a couple of quick pics, swapped the sideframes and reused the pilot/coupler mounts from the Metroliner frame after drilling a pair of 2/56 holes on the Amfleet frame and notching the frame. Attachments:

Hi group, I posted an album of cabcar prototype photos that may be of some use to anyone modeling Amtrak cab cars. Some of the photos are not the greatest quality as my digital camera is quite old, also I need to get better shots of the fireman's side and rear of the cars. Most of photos are front end and roof shots. Link is: www.flickr.com/photos/126447152@N06/sets/72157647036681726/

aem7,Thank you for sharing that set of photos,9649 is a recent rebuild done at Bear De(2013),plating over the pass-thru door and welding the Engineers side door for safety/comfort reasons, and a MU control fix to work with the ACS-64's,noted the bell mounted under the engineer's side floor as well. That bar behind the pilot carries the cab signal reciver coils/ACSES transponder reader.

Very nice, I'm working on one my self and would be interested in the decals set if any are still available. If not can you advise me where i might find some. I'm using the new Walther Metroliner as my starting point . I have the Micro Scale decal set but the baracade stripes are too wide and too short. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
