Nice catch, the ConnDOT and Amtrak rebuilds will follow the release of the "As Built" from EMD in the late '50's including the "mini pan" used for Gap jumping the switches with the overhead 3rd rail used in GCT. Wonder if they will do the PC and CR versions of the "Empire" blue/yellow scheme,PC "black dip", and PC/CR "patch" schemes.

Have a look at the listing here: rapidotrains.com/fl9_ho.htmlThe listing of units being done in the initial run is farther down the page. This includes PC and CR blue and yellow, PC black dip, and even patched-NH PC units (plus a bunch of others). I don't have any use for these, but I'm sure they will be spectacular models and I'm very excited to see them produced, since I know many of you folks in the states have been wanting these for ages! I can attest that Rapido's FP9A blows any other F-unit I've seen out of the water (in addition to running beautifully), so I have no doubt their FL9 will be along the same lines. Worth every penny!

Just for fun here are some pictures I took of FL9's in MA and CT back in 1999. Sorry for the poor scans they are from old negatives. mgwsy.smugmug.com/Trains/Amtrak-Trains/FL9/ Notice the slight variation on the Amtrak units paint job, from the black on the rear to stripe.

Amtrak's FL-9's after rebuilding/HEP install, normally ran single unit GCT/NY Penn to Albany, except for trains #48+#49 ,the Lake Shore Ltd. Before rebuilding, were swapped out at Harmon to E-8's or F-40's. The 4 Chrome Crankshaft FL-9's done for ConnDOT were normally on the 2 thru rush hour trains from Danbury, and were Fan Trip favorites while in service.
Note to LIRR modelers, the MN silver/blue/red scheme was used for the trio of FL-9AC's with the C-1 cars.

The 1st review is in,"Model Railroad News",Oct'15 issue,pg50,from the pics with the article, the amount of detail is right on for both orders from EMD,2000 to 2029 the original order with front MU hookups and "mini" roof pan for the overhead 3rd rail in GCT(NH class EDER-5) and the 2nd order,2030 to 2059,without the front MU hookups per ICC order(NH class EDER-5a) Sound equipped units have ESU-Loksound Decoders, fuction 14 is the pure DC electric mode when running on 3rd rail in GCT,review didn't say what surprises lurk in the onboard sound files! Jason has loaded some strange(to railroading) sounds in the past The N scale units are in production now, www.rapidotrains.com for details

Kind of curious here, It seems to me that after rebuilding, Amtrak retained six FL-9's for service on the Empire Corridor (#484-489). That being said, why are there pics of #491 if only 484-489 existed? www.railroadpix.com/rrphotos/detail/734.htmlAny help would greatly be appreciated on this, thanks! Tom

The range was 480-491,484 became a parts supply at the rebuild shop,#490 was vacated or not assigned, NH 2021,then PC/CR 5021 was to be 490,possibly a parts supply as well or unrebuildable. #480-483 were already on the "Garden tracks" between Harmon Shop and Croton West Yard as part supplies with heavy doses of "Body Rot" type rust. Believe 480-483 were vacated at "C-day",Conrail's creation, and the day Amtrak got the NEC.
