As I mentioned in the other thread about AMT's leased NJT F40PH-2CAT, I've recently been working on building a model of one of the NJT GP40FH-2 locomotives that AMT leased during that same time period. I started this project when I found someone selling one of the IHP shells along with a couple of P42s, which seemed like a great opportunity. The shell was in good shape (and the previous owner had even started adding a few details), but unfortunately it's the non-dynamic brake version. I decided after some deliberation that I would leave it as-is, and hope that the lack of dynamics is not too overly obvious.
As some of you may know, the GP40FH-2s were built by Morrison-Knudson using a GP40 standard cab and cowling from an F45. NJT has 15, Metro North has 6 (with some variation between the two). I always loved the look of these unique locomotives, and when I found out that AMT had leased some, I was excited for the opportunity to eventually model one.
So, here's my pretty-well completed shell for 4140. You'll note that I've added brass fans (previous owner included them), horn, ditch lights and marker lights, various pilot details (HEP, cut levers, etc), plow, wipers, lift rings, antenna, A/C, and all grabs. I also added Canon&co step tread on the front deck and steps, which adds a bit of extra detail. Painted with Modelflex paints, with microscale NJT decals and home-made AMT decals (not as nice as the ones Deandremouse had made, but still pretty good I think! One cracked up a bit, but I think the look works anyway because the units only had temporary AMT markings stuck on them anyway)
Next step is to find a suitable chassis to mount it on, and then it will be good to go!
