Nice one BSH! I've got some business Pullmans and Budds to add interiors too and these are great inspiration. Are those Palace Car Co. seats?

April '14 issue of RMC has an article on pg 51 about converting a Kato Business cars from the factory B&O to C&O,and PM cars. and adding a lighted drumhead(tomar) to it. this can be used as a guide on how to pull the car apart for modifictions, and adding "life"(figures)to it.

Something to look out for when railfanning,DOTX 221 a former CN/VIA car(type unknown)has been outfitted with a new automated Track Inspection system,Autonomonus Track Geometry Measurement System (AGTMS)that uses cell phone tech to send reports to the FRA. Car is painted PRR tuscan red with gold trim/lettering Full FRA lettering on the side above the windows, car named "Office of Safety" Car is unmanned when in service, and will be at the head end of Amtrak trains next to the power, needs HEP to fuction. Article in"Cowcatcher" Magazine,Sept/Oct'14 pg13, www.cowcatchermagazine.comFair Warning:not sure if there's a paywall! Saw a copy of this mag at RARG'14 Show this past weekend. This car can and does operate on freight only tracks as well, carries an onboard genset to allow it to work alone.

There's a thread about Conrail's Office car fleet,in the RR.net Conrail Forum, the last 2 posts(done in Feb '15) with links to the poster's roster shots of the fleet included were the track geo car + support car,a rail analyzer car + support car, a Dyno car,a R+D car for research,a car for RR PD use,and a 40 boxcar used as a HEP power car. Not sure if this will work as a link: railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=155299

In Merto-North's early years,ConnDot ordered or moded some BBD Comet II's/Shoreliner I's coaches and Cab Cars with gensets on board to use with non-HEP equipped power,(the MN B-23-7's) (As LIRR did to some cars used on the Port Jeff Branch)

As an "as time permits" project, have been working on a "track testing train" with the Conrail track geo car as a starting off point, and using Athearn HW cars that were surplus to other needs at the time years back. starting off with the Obs car, then a "Diner/Lounge",with a Sleeper/Dorm",and RPO turned into a HEP/Field repair shop for the onboard equipment. "Buried" somewhere in the deadline yard is a "Railbox" type car used to carry spare wheelsets that are "rigged" for the lab gear on board,it was "retrucked" with express reefer trucks. Added a"freelanced" track "force/gauge" test truck with a surplus Athearn HW truck topped with a "mini-tanks" radio container(stuffed with weights inside).
The given is the Athearn HW cars are 60-65 foot long, found on a forgotten Industry track after the HW fleet was pulled from commuter service.

Saw a Track Geo Train last Sunday, power was a BNSF 44c4,with a empty coal hopper and and a self contained SL "coach" with the"FRED" hanging off the coupler. Believe it was a Track Geometry Car,running behind Amtrak # 4 heading east(north).(Was stopped at a grade crossing, gates down, without a camera handy ) Have an Athearn RPO kicking around, painted in Sliver/Blue(MN's colors),and looking at my Nov 20 2014 post about that automated DOTX Track Geo Car,figured that was a way to use it a an RR owned car that floats system wide. Starting by pulling the shell off, installed ladder stock as "steps" at all 4 corners and the 4 doors to the RPO Attachments:
