At least you're home (hopefully) and ok,a plumber's work van(claimimg brake failure)ran a red light and took out a new ABQ(2014) Ride Bus,bus was broadsided and crashed into a House! Minor injuries all around, van might be toast, bus will be at the body shop for a while!

Thanks guys, I am okay. Short synopsis:
Not that I go out on many calls as being the Watch Commander for my shift. I was coming back for coffee (yea yea yea, no donut jokes...i'm more of a "fries" guy anyway ha ha) when going through an intersection at 35 mph (clocked from the in-car mobilvision camera), I was broadsided by an elderly male in a Lincoln Town Car (I was in a Dodge Charger), who apparently hit the gas and not the brake for the red light and hit me (LUCKILY) on the passenger side at 40mph. I don't remember the crash, I do remember coming to and having EMS try to get me out of my seat (somehow the seatbelt I was wearing lodged under the utility belt around my waist and hung up under my sidearm holster.) Once they cut the belt off, I was able to get out no problem (minus the arm injury, a VERY sore back and mild concussion.) If I got hit on the driver side, it wouldn't have been pretty. Needless to say, I am in good shape and returning to work in a week (on light duty...off to the desk I go!)
That being said, they don't know it yet, but I will be putting in for early retirement around April (the county is having a buy-out to get people to retire, so instead of 25 years of service, they cut it down to 20, with lifetime medical and $20k cash.) So having 16 years in, I will buy back 4 years of service from the state to bring my pension service to 20...and out I go. It has been a fun ride here! My plan is to move from New Jersey to Washington state late summer-early Fall, so I can't wait for that. Will I stay retired....nope, I like being active (and I'm in my 30's! So it was a blessing I got hired young.) Amtrak West hiring? ha ha.
As I said, Superliner updates are forthcoming. My trip to Chicago which was supposed to be next week was scrapped due to the accident, so still just taking it easy for now.
Thanks for the concerns guys, I love this forum!
Tom

If you don't like traffic jams, stay away from the Sea-Tac(Seattle/Tacoma) Metro area I-5 plugs up at a dime size dent accident real quick.(Been there/done that as an OTR Driver) Glad you're ok,take it the charger was totaled out. Hopefully the video doesn't wind up on "Fast & Loud Demolition Theater",I've heard the on board video from the Bus wreck here made the rounds at ABC news.

Hopefully Walters will do a run of the ex-El-Cap lounge cars in ph IV as "Pacific Parlor" cars, in the'70's and early to mid'80's the Superliners and the El-Cap ran together in mixed consists. All of the El-Cap cars were converted to HEP by Amtrak at Beech Grove.

Okay boys I am back... expect Superliner pics shortly... my project is back full swing!
As far as what Hoss said about the ex El-Cap cars.... I have no clue as to WHY Walthers has not come out with these yet. They actually had SKU# and models for the HEP equipped versions (indicating Pacific Parlor Cars). It was found by accident a few years ago as the models were listed in the parts diagram and specifically said "HEP."

The biggest change was the removal of the on board gensets, and related changes to HVAC systems, however these changes didn't change the outside apperance of the cars except for the HEP plugs and the blue 27 point Comm line plugs,The lounges and diners had 220 VAC plugs for standby power for on board refrig/freezer units near the "A" truck. It's an overlooked detail on the carside near the floor.
