Hi all,
Just thought I'd check in here. My name is Joe and I live in northern NJ. I've been a model railroader for 43 of my 48 years. I started out like most, with an HO-scale trainset on a 4'x8' tabletop. Over the years I was able to extend that 4'x8' tabletop into a 12'x8' layout in my parents basement. When they moved out of state in 1990 I briefly dropped out of the hobby since I had no room in my apartment for a layout in any scale. About a year later I moved into a house and switched to N-scale, building a layout on a hollow-core door. That layout allowed me to have 1 train running on the main while switching a 3-track yard and several industries. I've been inactive again since 2011 due to a move to another house. The basement should be ready by the middle of 2013 and a new, larger, layout will be started. I'm still debating whether or not to use the original layout as part of the new layout or just start from scratch.
My main modeling interest is in the Erie Lackawanna. I also have equipment from the other Northeast railroads of the late 1960's-early 1970's: I have locomotives and cabooses for the Lehigh Valley, L&HR, D&H, and NYS&W railroads as well. When Atlas started to release engines painted for NJT I picked up a couple of them as well as 3 Comet coaches from Island Model Works.
Once the new layout is up and running the plan is to run just 1 NJT round trip during an operating session. If I am able to acquire more NJT equipment I might swing the layout more towards commuter operations with freight movements being secondary. I still have a few months to think about things while I get the basement ready
