With Iowa Pacific about to take over the 4 day a week run of the Hoosier State(train #'s 850/851) for the state of Indiana,and in California,a state funded group of Commuter operators about to take control of the Amtrak-California corridor operations. Figured on starting up a thread for the modeling of these operations,while sponsored by the states under PRIIA rules,they may use different equipment and provide the "on board" services personel, but might use Amtrak T+E crews to run the train,to keep peace with the Host RR's. In the case of Amtrak-California,the brand name may be kept,no change of equipment. In the IP's running of the Hoosier State,Heritage power and equipment,3 ex NJT Geeps, and 2 coaches and 1 Dome Car The NCDOT operations,the Piedmont service trains fall in this thread with their Heritage cars and locos
Note:The after "A-Day" passenger train operations by Southern Ry,DRGW and Rock Island belong in the Pre-Amtrak Forum.

Well it finally happened,Train 851(2)was run with Iowa Pacific's equipment today,after some trackwork was done at Indy to allow access to IP's own yard near Beech Grove,bracketed by 2 GP40PH's,2 coaches and a Great Dome in IC colors,tonight's train 850(2)will make the return trip. Reportly there's an agreement to allow Amtrak equipment to deadhead to Beech Grove on this train as well

IP has run a MU trainline thru the coaches and the Great Dome car,also IP's set is towed when needed, to be staged properly at Indy or Chicago. For those who are on Facebook,IP has launched a page for their "Hoosier State" operation.

IP is having money problems,on March 01,2017,Train #'s 850/851 will revert back to Amtrak's cars,reportly Horizon Fleet coaches and a Dinette,INDOT has requested 10031 to be added to the set,and will fork up the $$$$ for it. It's unknown if IP is going chapter 11 or chapter 7 Bankruptcy route.
Note: 10031 is due to be on the "Reno Fun Train" over Donner Pass in the near future

<sigh>
Ed does this to himself all the time. Somehow IP is very bad at actually keeping right-side-up on the cash flow basis. Doubt they're filing for bankruptcy...more likely just walking away from the contract. It's also possible that Amtrak or the State didn't hold up its end...did you read anything else on the matter?

Only other "hint" was the reports of layoffs at all IP RR's,and all passenger trips have been canceled. reportly for "low bookings". Reports of Late paychecks,but that was tended to. IP's RR in Texas and SNC in NY are the biggest"losers" money wise. SLRG in Alamosa Co is the "Home" RR for the Hoosier state equipment and power, Supposed to have a "complete" set of ex ATSF El-Cap hi-level cars at Alamosa yard

Take this with a grain of salt........ This started as a HSR plan,and was to connect with CAHSR at Victorville Ca. That plan died a slow death and went nowwhere. The "X" train has returned from the dead,while no date or schedule has been set yet,plans seem to be in place to run a PM depart from Fullerton Ca with a 5.5 hour trip on BNSF and UP to "their" station in Las Vegas, with an AM depart from Vegas back to Fullerton Ca 5.5 hours later. They seem to have a "deal" to use some cars from the"Friends of MILW 361" fleet of private cars. So the Walters "Hiawatha" cars could be used to model this train,run as an Amtrak charter move, if this really gets off the ground. Here's the site: www.vegasxtrain.com For Background info on this,check out the X-train thread in the Railroad.net forum: General passenger train discussion.

Not sure if this was a"horse trade" or some other "payment",a ex-ATSF "great dome" in full IP paint,but unlettered sitting at Amtrak's Beech Grove shop. Beech Grove does do contract work/inspections on private cars for a price($$$$$$$$).
