When Amtrak was created,3 railroads opted out,the Southern Railway,DRGW,and Rock Island. While the Rock Island went "belly up",after the mandated time of running their own trains, SR and DRGW finally joined Amtrak. This thread is for those private run trains after "A-Day" till they joined or discontinued service.

Other than the "Silverton Branch" narrow gauge operation(was still owned by the RR back then)DRGW ran the "Rio Grande Zephyer" Between Denver-Salt Lake City. At "A"- Day with their share of the CZ equipment pool(they were partners with the BN[CB&Q],and WP) started service with their F-units(their last stand). At some point,a remaining PB carbody was turned in to a steam generator and retrucked with Blomberg trucks from a retired EMD loco.

The Coach Yard is going to run an 8 car set(in HO) that was the "Rio Grande Zephyr" when DRGW went it's own way as Amtrak was formed. The set(TCY 1700)will have a combine,2 converted coaches from sleepers,48 seat Diner,3 Dome Coaches, and a Dome-OBS. 7 of the cars were ex-CZ,the combine was part of the "Prospector" train equipment set. www.thecoachyard.com
