This sub-forum reminds me that there's another pretty big category of miscellaneous passenger, the ones in Alaska. Several cruise operators run luxury trains on the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Fairbanks that are somewhat similar to dinner trains: The ARR operates a separate cruise train weekly from Anchorage to Seward using reconditioned Florida Fun Train equipment. There's also the White Pass & Yukon, now exclusively a passenger operation: There's also a 3-foot gauge railroad that hauls passengers from the parking lot to a gold dredge near Fairbanks, although this is more of an amusement park style operation.

The White Pass and Yukon is a 3 foot gauge RR that at one time reached Whitehorse Canada Has unique Alco powered diesels, and has former East Broad Top freight cars along with some former D&RG narrow gauge freight equipment. As I understand it WP&Y operates as far as Carcross Canada from Skagway Ak in the US.
ARR run a yearround service for people that live near the ROW to Fairbanks or Anchorage, this is documented on a TV show "Railroad Alaska" on various Discovery Network channels. Most freight is carfloated from Vancouver BC to Whittier Ak ARR runs many cruise Ship owned cars on their trains during the summer months.
