Greetings!
I have been searching in vain for a new in the box Walthers Amtrak Horizon Coach. I've seen them on eBay but I'm not willing to pay the ransom demands the sellers are asking for. I know they're rare and I'm willing to pay a reasonable price but I'm from the Great White North and I have to factor in the exchange and shipping. If anyone has one that they would be willing to part with please step forward.
Should someone know a retailer, be it bricks and mortar or otherwise, I'd appreciate knowing.
Thanking you in advance,
Jeff
p.s. in lieu of Amtrak I'd also take a NJ Transit or MBTA coach.

There have been reports of a new Walthers Run of the Comet/Horizon cars in the near Future, regreatably,on E(vil)Bay,the"speculators" that bought out any remaing stock are now trying to "cash in" before Walthers new run hits the market.

Hi Jeff, thanks for stopping in!
May I ask, what is your reason for wanting a new unopened car? Like BSH said, word on the street is that Walthers will be announceing a new run of Horizon cars any month now. If you want the cars to run on your layout, I think it is adventageous for you to wait to buy cars from the new run. That way you get brand new, greatly updated and accurate cars. The prices will most likely be in line with the those of the Proto Amfleets, but that still may be less than what people are charging for the new-old-stock cars on eBay.
If you are not willing to wait, don't want to pay the prices for the new release, or are for some other reason attached to the old run of horizons, here is my advice: be willing to look at used stuff. You may be suprised at how lightly used some of the items on ebay can be. I'll bet that there are some "used" items that you would have a hard time telling from ones that have never been out of the package. Look for a seller that posts actual photos of the item that you are getting, instead of just a generic photo. Most sellers will put a disclaimer if there is an imperfection on a used item, and if the item does not match the description you can file a claim with ebay.
If you are still dead set on finding one new in the box, you are most likely going to have to pay more than you want for it. I have seen simiar items go for under market value, but these are rare and you have to be very quick to snag them up. You may even want to save the search and set-up notifications on it so that you see it as soon as it is posted.
Hope this helps!

I sold off my collection of Amtrak Horizon cars months ago for hopefully a pending announcement, but I'm holding on to my Metro North, Conn DOT, NJ Transit and SEPTA Horizon cars.
If Walthers releases new Horizon Cars either undecorated or hopefully the same regional commuter versions previously done, I'll be more than happy to sell my collection off.
I'm not holding my breath for a new Walthers Metro North Comet/Horizon. Best case wish, the old Horizon shell fits over a new car frame...lol.

I'm really surprised how popular the Horizon cars have become. Something tells me if they are priced right with the potential of a new version on the way, these will blow off the store shelves.
BTW...Anyone knows why Atlas never flipped their O scale Horizon cars into HO? I've seen the O Scale NJ Transit versions run at a train show with an Atlas ALP44 and they are some sweet looking cars.

More like Walthers will be releasing them any "MONTH" lol. They're overdue now (Amtrak Ph III, IV, IVb), I'd expect an announcement soon.
I still have no clue as to commuter (Comet) versions, they would sell a bunch!
Another hint.... You will see re-tooled PROTO Amtrak Budd Heritage cars down the road. ;-)

The new Horizons shouldn't be as high as the plated Amtrak stuff that's coming out because it doesn't require the plating process. Just normal paint and interior. I would guess no more than $60. I'd be surprised if it were higher but time will tell.

If the new run of Horizons has a finish like the 1st run of Superliners that Walters did, that seems to be the closest to "when new" from BBD.

The new Horizons will not be plated and will replicate the brushed aluminum carbody with the clearcoat application (not the prototype debut where dirt got embedded in the porous aluminum, effectively turning a silverish car brown VERY quickly.)
Hope they come soon!
