Jason just posted this little note on another forum....
Now aside from the upcoming Amtrak RDC-1 and the mention of a possible F40PH w/ditch lights that was noted in his last newsletter, I wonder what other model could Jason be hiding up his sleeve?
A P42 or a ROHR Turbo? A re-release of the Turbo Train? Taking all bets.....

I read that comment as well. Thinking from a Rapido perspective, I think the most likely train is the Rohr Turboliner. It seems to fit their era and it ran in Canada. Also, according to our list of Amtrak models (http://acmodels.boards.net/thread/208/ho-scale-listing-amtrak-models), it has not been done before in plastic.
Rapido doesn't seem to do any brand new prototypes (yet). That would eliminate the ACS-64. Plus, I'll be interested to see how the Kato model does because I'm not sure that it has had time to build a large enough fanbase. Maybe I'm wrong. AFAIK, Rapido has not done any heavy electrics either. Most of Amtrak's electrics have been covered anyhow.
As for the P42, I highly doubt it. I don't think Jason was just giving us a line when he said he wasn't interested. Plus, the Athearn model has gotten pretty nice recently and they have sold a lot of models with it. Are people that desperate for a new one?
Those are my speculations, but I may be wrong. Like you said, it could also be a rerun of an older model. It could also be a passenger car.

Jouef did the ANF Tubros(in HO),Rapido would need the "OK" from ANF and from Rohr, along with the Amtrak "license". The Rohr's ran on #68/69 to Montreal, may have done the GCT-Toronto ON run as well. Rapido seems to have Amtrak's blessing to run ph I and II steam heated cars not covered by Walters, along with a Steam Generator Car of CN design...

My odds on favorite and wish would be the Rohr Turbo. The SNCF Class T2000 could also be made with the tooling and was the French equivalent of the Turbo. That could appeal to Canadian modelers & possibly be Rapido's way of getting more into the international market to go along with the British trains he's producing.
We'll see....but one other model I forgot Jason mentioned months ago if sales were good. The FL9AC.

The trio of FL-9AC's were the prototype test beds of the DE/DM 30's on the LIRR, along with the C-1 coaches. While the C-1's found homes on the Iowa Pacific's various shortlines, the FL-9AC's were cutup.

Well, the news is out! Rapido's next model is the Cabbage! (F40 NPCU) Now that it is released, I think it is the clear choice! I don't know why we didn't think of it. They can work with their existing tooling, and it has a wide market. I think it will be a success!

Some of us went the "kitbash route"by using the "dime a dozen" Lifelike F-40 "trainset" model and spare parts floating around the shop/bench.... For those that get the newsletter, notice the destination on that Historical London Transport bus...

This is pretty cool! I've known these were coming for a while (Jason mentioned it way back when they started the F40 project), and it makes so much sense when they've got the chassis and basic tooling down. Given how well the first Amtrak units seem to have sold, I'm pretty sure we'll see a few more variations on the F40 base yet. I don't necessarily need one, but I'm always excited to see more modern-era passenger equipment getting done. The thing I'm most looking forward to is of course the rebuilt versions of the VIA F40, which are also in the works (Jason spilled the beans on that one recently).
What amazes me is that despite all the F40 offerings out there, this is actually the first time anyone will be offering a cabbage. No doubt it will be the best anyone could have asked for too.
For the more knowledgeable folks on here: how many versions of cabbages does Amtrak have? Are there clear batches, or are they more of the every-unit-is-unique sort of rebuilds? Any major difference between the Cascades ones and the various PhV ones? If there is a lot of variation, I'm interested to see if Rapido will try to pick a fairly common version, or do several variations.

The NPCU's used on the Cascade services, and the Downeaster service are different in paint scheme, and in what PTC gear will be installed, the 2 other "oddballs" are the "exibit train" unit has a F59 HEP gen set installed and the NPCU for Amtrak-Ca painted as a Caltrain F-40 and used with former NJT "Comarrows" coaches and 2 Horizen Food service cars.
