I'm in the process of prepping a Horizon coach for paint. What is the best brand and color to use to accurately reflect the prototype?
Many thanks in advance,
Jeff

I've got several Comets that need repainting. Mike at IHP has something that he does with Tamiya Aluminum, but I'm going to use Allclad Aluminum. The Allclad needs to be applied over a base coat of gloss grey, and I need to play around with it to find a proper shade.

The Comets/Horizons should not have Alclad applied as they are not stainless steel. They fade very quickly. Something like a platinum mist would be more appropriate but don't use any shiny metallic type paint that is liken to stainless steel. The Wlathers versions (with regard to the base paint) do not accurately reflect the prototype finish.

Note that I called for Alclad aluminum, not stainless. This thread is about using it on aluminum bus bodies: atlasrescueforum.proboards.com/thread/365/alclad2-sprucing-gmc-transit-photos

I just don't consider alclad for anything that doesn't have high luster and I saw the reference to comets. To each his own.

The Amtrak Horizen Fleet was bare aluminum that was clearcoated after washing the body with an aluminum brightner detergent at Beech Grove.
As for the Comets on NJT and MN,Platium mist fits better since their wash racks were not that good at washing off really "ground in" dirt. If you want the "Just washed" Look,a gloss clearcoat should work.
