If you wanted a reason to run different roads equipment on your layout, you can follow SEPTA's "lead" since their Silverliner V Fleet has been pulled due to a truck defect. Amtrak is bring some of the Laid up AEM-7's back on line,NJT might loan out some arrow MU's possibly some MARC coaches and even some SLE cars from ConnDOT.
Here's the final kicker,Rotem's Truck sub-contractor went Belly up!

There's word that 5 MARC single level coaches might be heading to Philly, NJT might send an ALP46 and 8 MLV's,restricted to the NEC, the former RDG wire is at 11kv 25hz,the ALP will pop breakers due to power draw.

A pair of ACS-64's,with 5 Amfleet cars,1 of the ACS-64's is tied to the 5 MARC coaches. The ACS-64 was Demo'ed at couple of months back on SEPTA trackage. The "given" is a need to overhaul all the SL-V's trucks to replace the defective equalizer bars, that is the part that's micro -fractured or cracked outright. This part is also used as part of the suspension setup with the springs.

As the SL-V's are returning online, the NJT set and Amtrak's set of cars have been returned. 2 MARC sets and a pair of ACS-64's are still in use,SEPTA is thinking of buying the MARC sets.
An update,as of this Jan(2017) 2 MARC 6 Car sets are still running on SEPTA with "barely" running SEPTA AEM-7/ALP-44 motors, everything else has been returned
