hey guys I just posted this over at the diesel detailer so I thought I'd also share it here:
I've been talking about doing this project for a while and I finally have an update on the N scale GO transit Hawker Siddeley build. I talked to a friend of mine who works in a 3D modeling program and we decided the easiest way to create a HS would be to model it and print it over at Shapeways. I was able to track down dimensions for the HS car that I found in a Government of Ontario Transit operator's manual. With some trial and error I think we have gotten a pretty good shape to our n scale HS. There really isn't much in the way of detail to grab onto the HS, its main a shape thing for the cars. We did a cab car and a coach. These are the cab and coaches that were NOT self propelled, I have yet to find enough detail on the fans to make one of the self propelled sets. The coach and cab will pop easily onto a KATO Amfleet car, just trim the ends with pliers to get the fit. I you want a cab car that runs I have also been able to fit body onto a KATO RDC car. I wired the KATO RDC with a Loksound select micro and LED so the headlight will work. Really I'm hoping the body just gets you started and people can go from there. I haven't done window glazing yet, I need to figure out how to tint the clear styrene a bit. One last thing, I had to have some custom decals made currently no one is offering specific HS decals, but I think some of the GO logos which you can find in N scale for the F40ph nose will work on the HS fine. Here are some pics:
More updates to come as I finish these prototypes off. The shells are already available for printing on Shapeways I think under Jono's toybox. Anyway enjoy and GO transit.
