n scale GO transit Hawker Siddeley

That's really cool! Since the real ones are still out there, at some point you could probably get more measurements but they sure have the look already.

The DMUs were all turned into unpowered cab cars in later years. I've been collecting photos of them whenever they show up on flickr or ebay. Shoot me a PM with your email, and I can send over what I've found. One or two are almost good enough to tell what's going on up on the roof.

My understanding is that the carbody shells are basically the same. But I don't want to repost any of the pics here because I snitched all of them.

I didn't have immediate plans to build one, but was enjoying the research challenge while looking for other pics.

I never rode these cars, but I saw quite a lot of them when a bunch of them ended up with AMT in Montreal second-hand. I haven't heard very good things about the ride in them, but they were sure ubiquitous, and a must-have for many GO (and AMT) modellers!

yeah I saw them when I was in Toronto years ago, they really stood out. I am modeling GO transit from around 67-89 so I had to have these for the look. Still finishing them up, maybe this weekend. 

Just posted this over at diesel detailer, but here's an update in case you don't go over there: Well I think I finally finished one of these. The windows are so large on the cab I had to glue two windshield wipers together to get the right look. Could have used a horsefly leg instead it was so small. Anyway I'm pretty pleased with this. I haven't figured out how to do the safety chains on the front door yet, but I'm ok without them for now. The chassis is a KATO RDC, I wired a Loksound Select Micro into it with a suggested sound file that was similar to the cab car. It has a working front light, and full Loksound, that decoder really improved everything, power movement everything, I can't recommend them enough. I also recently finished my fourth GO F40ph, it's in the background of the shots. I'm going to finish off the fleet of six they had in the coming weeks. I'll post on the F40 in another thread, I did a comparison between Scalecoat GO Green and the new GO Green by protopaint that I bought from George's Trains. I think it's made by Rapido. Anyway here are the Hawker images:





small note, the RDC chassis needs a little trimming to make the body fit. I had to add some styrene to create a platform for the couplers, and I also installed the styrene inside for the number boards. The windows are all clear styrene tinted with Tamiya clear smoke paint. The end pilots of the RDC work as the ends for the Hawker with some small modifications. The coach car fits on a KATO Amtrak Amfleet chassis. IT also needs trimmed a tiny bit for the body to fit. My friend who made the model in maya has it up on Shapeways if you want to try and build your own. The walls are pretty thin and like all shape ways models prone to bending but will straighten with a little clamping. I'm currently building some more coaches and a second dummy cab, I'll post pictures when I'm done with those.
