Amtrak has picked the builder of the next gen Acela equipment,Alstrom that already has a US factory in New York State A youtube video in the Amtrak "Blog" shows a early look of the design, based off a 3rd gen Pendlino in service on the Swiss Federal Railways(SBB/CFF) Announced in a press release today,Amtrak and Alstrom will build a trainset with a top speed of 186 mph for NEC service, part of "Avelie" model line at Alstrom, the "Liberty" is a 2 powercar articulated train set that is moduler in design allowing expansion if needed. Virgin Trains franchise in the UK bought the 1st gen Pendilino's that are still in service. There're models of the Pendlino's,in OO scale(1:76 instead of 1:87)in the Virgin UK paint. www.alstrom.com/transport

This is the closest model I(via Google) can find,it's Hornby's version in OO scale (1:76) thru the Hatton's Model trains website Hornby R1155 Pendilino train set in Virgin trains livery with Alstrom Pendilino branding. Class 39,road #390004 Priced at $ 171.29 USD (130 british pounds),not including shipping to the US cost, shipping wgt 2500 grams. You will need to install decoders in both cab cars (1 each cab),believe there're add on cars avaible. They have seating in both cab cars(Not FRA compliant )but if you want to run a set of this EMU's, it;s your RR! www.hattons.co.uk

The company is Alstom, part of the same consortium (Bombardier-GEC-Alsthom)that built the first gen Acela. They dropped the "h" in 1998. Let's hope the Pendolino performs better than that TGV with the added weight of US requirements. If it's close to the ETR 610, it will look much like the SBB version (that should be a great thing). www.suter-meggen.ch/HO%20Netto/hornby/sortiment/frame_cisalpino.htmThat's pretty close, if repainted. -Tom

Nice catch, like the Virgin Trains version,it's not FRA compliant with seating in the Cab Cars. Do you know if there're extra "add on" cars avaible?

Not sure if Lima has them, I would think they would. The more I look at the design, I wonder if it's more AGV than Pendolino. That puts us right back where we started.

Not sure if Lima was picked up by Hornby, but trying to move around in the Hornby site is not easy, tends to lock you to the American models and allow limited access to the other product lines. Not a good idea,Hornby Tried my luck poking around the Hornby Innternational site,Lima has become a Hornby product line, but will not show what is avaible, for now

Yes IIRC Lima, Hornby, and Rivarossi are all the same.
