Hello All, Finally getting registered on the board. Have been reading for a while. Glad to meet everyone. Great to absorb your expert advice! A little background: I am an N Scale modeler that is concentrating on all Northeast Corridor (Amtrak, NJ Transit, Metro North, New Haven). Anything going through Penn Station or Grand Central. Dreaming and philosophizing about N Scale catenary - any advice is appreciated. May have some time off next week to dig into some building. Also helping out with the Gulliver's Gate project being built in Times Square. Just wrapped some of the subway/Grand Central layout for the Manhattan section. Will try to attach some pics below. Set up a Digitrax/Lenx DCC system using the BDL168 block detection board and the SE8C signaling board. Then running Tranincontroller by RR&Co. Pretty excited about the project! Will try to post some pictures below, and keep updated through the winter dev if anyone is interested. gulliversgate.com/***NOTE TO ALL MEMBERS: We are looking for the "rare" Walthers Metro North Horizon cars in HO! As well as any well crafted Metro North or LIRR M7s in HO!!! Please PM me if anyone has these cars, and would be willing to offload them for the exhibit!!!*******

Nycnec,Welcome to the board! It was hoped by now,Walters would have done a new run of the Comet/Horizon Fleet cars by now. That "Gulliver's Gate" project looks to be a massive undertaking. Good Luck on that project. You might find some "M-series" kits at Island Model Works. FYI: there's no such "thing" as a finished Model Railroad, there will always be maintaince and "tinkering" with scenes to "improve" the final outcome.

Should have went HO, we're working on an NEC modular club. Still, there are a lot of nice 3D print options in N scale lately!
Unfortunately, if Gulliver's Gate is dead set on having a big "Metro North" fleet, they're probably going to have to build it themselves. On top of the Walthers cars being difficult to come by, most of the existing Commuter car models are going to take work. As backshophoss noted, the only HO M7 is going to be Island Model Works.
These kits aren't always perfect. Sometimes you'll get one that is fine, other times you can tell the mold experienced shrinkage, and either the body shell or the floor is too small. IMW kits can be made into nice models, but they are often crude if completed "as is". It can take a lot of extra work to refine them.
Again, they can be made into nice models, its just that they take a lot of work.
Its going to be a challenge modeling New York's Commuter railroads. Pretty much nothing is RTR, and most of it that is are stand-ins (P40DCs for P32ACDMS, Comets for Shoreliners, etc).

Hey! Good to know -- so are there any more details about the HO NEC modular? Website perhaps? Let me know! Funny you should mention the N scale kits. I am currently working on a N Scale Alp46 (Island Model Works via Shapeways). Their quality control needed to reprint it a few times to get it on spec, but printed great in the end. Just got done with paint/stickers etc. Trainworld is currently having a sale to liquidate their N Acela HH-P engines (only $39 now!) so seeing if I can mine anything from them, pantographs etc. Thanks again for the info! Looking forward to hearing about the NEC modular!!!!!

We will be down at the Timmonium, MD trainshow this weekend.

There's an ad in the June '17 issue of MR(pg 59)that shows Gulliver's Gate is now open to the public. Located at 216 W 44th street(in Times Square neighborhood) There's a Promo code in the ad that gets you a 20% off the ticket price when you buy online. When was the "Grand Openning"? gulliversgate.com
