Starting on pg 48 of the March '17 issue of RMC is an article of a F7 and coach kitbash used in Chicago commuter service, The RI 2700 series coaches were a Pullman standard design that had doors at the "Quarter point" along the car sides instead of the ends, the door design was carried over to the Gallery cars used in Metra services today. These cars were built in 1949,were "ahead of it's time" with on board A/C powered with an "Enginator" built by Waukesha. As RI went bankrupt, the carbodies were beginning to fall apart due "body rot"/rust were pulled from service in late 1977 as Metra F40's and Gallery cars went online.

I've been tempted to order some of these in HO in the past. My only hang up is a method of making flush fitting windows.

Aaah...was thinking you were referring to the shorty baggage cars on Amtrak. Would love to add one of those to the fleet.

The "Short" bags and the HEP power cars used with the GG-1's were ex-Army kitchen cars, believe a whole lot of the members could use them........ There was a "kitbash" type article done in RMC years back using a AHM/IHC/Rivirossi smooth side baggage car as the starting point. This article could be used as a basis to do the same with a Con-Cor smooth side baggage, eithor 72" or 85" car.

Starting on pg 24 in the April '18 issue of RMC is a kitbash of a coach into a mixed train combine/caboose, as done by Rock Island. The car was split up interior wise as a 20 seat coach section,a conductor's office, the rest was Baggage/Express space, was equipped with ice activated A/C for the passenger section.
