As Harvey has made a mess of things along the SE Texas and western La coastlines,Amtrak started short turning the Sunset Ltd
at El Paso Tx,extending service to San Antonio last night
Also The Texas Eagle was short turned at Ft Worth for a few days.
At the location where Amtrak short turns a train,a local cleaning company(Merry Maids)helps clean and set up the cars
for the return trip.
If possible,the train is turned on a wye at,or nearby the location,and find a track in the yard,or a siding to wait at untill departure time.
IF no wye,the power is run around the train.
If needed,the train gets fresh water tanks filled,and a "Honey wagon" pumps out of the waste water tanks.
Fresh ice for the Diner,Lounge,and/or Food service cars in consist.
As there's no ground power hookups,a fuel tank truck to fuel the locos(keeping the HEP online).
As the passengers wind up on buses,Baggage is transfered to a truck to follow the "bus bridge" to the next location
that has train service.
Unless there's no plan for a "bus bridge" due to conditions.
