The El Capitan was the #2 Chicago-Los Angeles behind the all Pullman Super Chief,this was the short lived version that was displaced by the Hi-Level cars in 1956. Most of the cars wound up finding a "home" on the SFO Chief that crossed paths with the Chief/El Capitan from Chicago-Kansas City and again from Dalies NM to Barstow Ca.
The Review of the Walters models stats on pg 48 of the July '18 issue of MRN and has a bit of the train history as well. On pg 80 of the same issue is a review of the 1950's era station built in Lawrence Ks,a part of the "Cornerstone" structure kits While unstaffed,it is still used by Amtrak's SW Chief dailey
At least 1 of the Lunch counter diners and 1 of the Big Domes is now part of the BNSF Biz fleet, some Big Domes are part of the IP's passenger car fleet,an 2 Big Domes are now part of Royal Gorge route tourist train operation running out of Canyon City Co into the former DRGW mainline thru the Royal Gorge,the reported "birth place" of the Dome Car concept.
