Hey there! The name's Nicholette. I model SEPTA Regional Rail between 2009-2012 as well as Amtrak (Same era) and NJ DOT (1979-1983). I'm part of the Northeast Corridor Historical Society which modeling the Northeast Corridor. You might have seen our layout at train shows. I also paint, weather, and do my own super detailing for most of my own models. Video of my work. youtu.be/rOv3iqZGQmw

If you have the chance, using a "rail brown" or "rust" color on the comet wheelset centers, they were never "shiny and clean", Rusted/Dirty was the prototype "LOOK". This is something I do with all my Amfleets and Comet cars. Of note: the "later" versions done by Walters and Bachmann have a somewhat toned down satin like finish,by using some dulcote, will dull down the"shine" a bit more, giving the effect of "fresh" Wheelsets were installed at the last shopping of the car.
There're a few pics of "rusted wheelsets" on pg 1 of the"converting cars to KD's/Maintenance thread. as done on a Walters/American GK food service car.
