Hi Folks- I'm posting my Superliner II Transition Sleeper that was my first go at using Alclad. The Walthers plated run of these cars still run close to MSRP as they're quite rare. I picked up an older run undecorated unit for about $12. Here's a similar undecorated car showing the plastic. I thought it might have enough shine to apply Alcald II Chrome directly onto the plastic. If I were to do it again I'd use a gloss base Alclaad 303 or 600. Here's after three coats of Alclad #107 I use decals from Microscale's phase IV set for the stripes. Still needs MU and HEP details. But I got a Transistion Sleeper for less than $20! Paul Z.

The car has the "look"of an in service car 3-5 years after a trip to Beech Grove, the Alclad has the "look" of stainless steel exposed to weather in the SW part of the US(the Sunset Ltd,SW Chief, the CZ)and regular visits to the car washers at LAUS and Chicago.

Outstanding Paul!.......Way to go!
Very smoooooooth and realistic results. The natural outdoor lighting showcases your unit well. I agree with Back Shop Boss in that the appearance is that of stainless that's a few years old but is washed regularly. Amazing what a difference the foundation color makes underneath the metalizer.
Paul, I hope I don't annoy you with these two suggestions:
1. Take a few more shots outdoors; but this time in the shade or at sunset with a sky background (as in your 4th picture but with more sky). I'm forwarding this thread to Alclad's crew.
2. Consider lightly weathering the trucks, the bottom 2-fluting leaves on the sides, and the bottom sections of the ends with light and very thin washes of tan and earth colors to give the car that "southwest service" look as in this prototype shot:

Thanks for the tips. Not annoying at all. Keep them coming. I'm only two years into this after a 25 year modeling hiatus.
I'll take some new pics outside this weekend.

Paul, AWESOME WORK!!!! Sorry I have been offline now for a few days so I have not commented earlier. IMO, your color looks truer to the real Superliner SS than the Walthers version. The Walthers version looks "darker" compared to yours and the real thing.

Antonio-
No Superliners in the works but I'm finishing up my first go at a Bi-level USP Amtrak California Coach sides kit bash. I'll post it in a new thread.
Paul
ps Nice article in September's MRH Antonio!

Paul,
Please take a few shots of your unit and submit it for the latest header! A shot with a sunrise or sunset in the background would be so neat!

Nice job on the stripes Acelaphillies! Thanks, I am glad that you like it. I apologize that it took so long to get up. A lot of times I post from my mobile phone, but I can't edit a picture on there.
