Yeah, I start to wonder if if the decal "window bands" are always worth it. Unless the windows are flush (which the Walthers ones aren't as flush as we'd like them to be), the decal won't wrap arpund the insides of the window and it looks messy without touching it up first.
I'm debating whether or not I should paint my IHP Comet IIIs this way, or still stick with the decals and just touch up?

Is that your version of a "portable derail" in front of MN 2031?

I'm trying to get these bad boys (plus an additional MARC III trailer) completed before the baby comes... Progress stalled for about a year.

Not trying to delay completion, but...first thing it makes me want to do is cut off the grab irons and diaphragms and replace with wire and heat shrink tubing. You can use 1/8" black heat shrink tubing for diaphragms and get closer coupling.
I was going down that path with my IMW Comet I...which is delayed until I decide whether it will get run through the table saw or not.
Don't worry that your modeling will grind to a halt because of a baby. Better to do the car right, methinks.
But the baby will consume most of your life for a little while there. And you'll love every minute of it.

And you'll love every minute of it. Yeah. I've considered it and have seen others actually do that. I'm ok with taking the short cut. I also considered the diaphragm idea, even when I overhauled the original four MARC III cars that I purchased and spray painted. I decided not to move forward with that simply because one would still have the issue of the floor plate (the piece under the tubes. While one could remove that as well, something would still need to take its place. I'm satisfied overall with the spacing between my MARC cars and for the most part, its worked quite well on my layout. I just installed the window glazing yesterday and it's amazing how much of a difference it makes. I love watching these things come together. I'll miss the kitbashing and kitbuilding.

Lighting is partially installed. Waiting on additional bulbs for headlights. They're almost ready for testing. The time spent painting the window gasket detail, really makes these things pop!

You should use 1 of the cab cars with the MARC MLV II cars, their MLV II cab cars are getting rebuilt for air brake mods and ASCES install, they were "bare bones" from the factory.
