Finally got a copy of the Walters 2019 catalogue slim picking on passenger cars,no Amfleet(except Bachmann) or Superliners (except Kato's),No Viewliners,or Horizon Cars this year. Definitely seems like Rapido will be the dominant player when it comes to passenger cars for the foreseeable future. I can't figure out what Walthers game plan is as of late. Is it financial, licensing or stubbornness that they won't do Horizon Cars or Viewliners or California cars. Walthers seems to be sticking to their guns with the "name train" releases instead of individual passenger cars for their Proto line.
What bothers me, past or present, almost every "name train" Pullman, Budd or AC&F passenger car that Walthers has released so far in their Proto line has made it into other railroads in one form or another. Couldn't at least, Walthers re-release those same Proto cars in Amtrak or other railroads?
At this point, I'll be happy if Walthers just announced more coaches since those cars always sell out so quickly.

Since they don't have modelers in the leadership ranks anymore, they fail to produce the right stuff. I suspect they don't make the obvious because it's not obvious to a non-modeler--convincing themselves that things have too limited an appeal. Isn't that what everyone said about the FL9? And the NJT dual mode plus BBD bilevels sold very well despite having only one geographic market.
Like I said in the other thread, lots of Metroliner variants seem obvious, but I'll bet Walthers can't think past the idea that it took a bath on the cars that it shouldn't have made. They always overproduce the strange cars and underproduce the coaches. Which sometimes works out. Like when I get undecorated café lounges for $20. So why make Phase IV RPOs at all, and never give us Pines-series sleepers in Amtrak when it's all tooled up? Is this someone making HO production decisions by looking at a Lionel train set? That's what it looks like from here.

Rapido has extended the order deadline to 02/11/19 on the NH EP-5's,the Alco/MLW FA-2 and FB-2 Rapido had a massive surge of orders on the 2nd run of RDC's along with the factory move to a new building, far way from the dust creating neighbors at the old location.

Glad I sold off my DC powered NJT GP40 a few months back. Been wanting a DCC powered version but they were extremely hard to find.
If Atlas is rerunning old NJ Transit locomotives (ALP44, GP40), I hope the U34CH gets redone. I REALLY, REALLY hoping a ALP46 announcement is in the works.
Side note: Atlas is also rerunning the NJ Transit Trainman Center Cupola Caboose.

More Amtrak models on the way. Bachmann released their 2019 catalogue online.....more ACS-64 models on the way. SEPTA road# 905, Amtrak road# 668 & Amtrak road# 602 (Mobility Scheme). Have to wonder if Bachmann has the inside track on doing the CCRC double decker SEPTA coaches when they hit the rails later this year.
Another run of GG1's with DCC/Sound with new road numbers....PC, Amtrak & PRR
Aside from the already announced rerun of Phase VI Amfleets...there's an Amtrak Phase VI full dome car with lighted interior on the way.
And another run of the Acela train set with a powered DCC equipped locomotive, dummy locomotive & 3 passenger cars are included in the catalogue. Interestingly, the extra 3 cars that used to be sold separately to make a prototypical Acela trainset are not listed in the catalogue anymore. I suspect this will probably be the last run of the Bachmann Acela set before Bachmann possibly considers doing the Acela II trainset.
Side note, I hope Bachmann bring back the N scale Acela set which is next to impossible to find. Aside from my HO layout, I have a small N scale layout and would love to add the Acela set if they decide to do a re-run.
Athearn also announced another run of F59PHI models, with DCC/Sound & LED lighting! METRA, some fantasy schemes, AMT, PNR, UTA & Amtrak will be included in the new run.

Figure on Mike at IHP will get the SEPTA license for the CRRC cars over Bachmann as he has a good record with SEPTA

IMW has also redone the Pullman/Standard Comet I cars also using the Walters Proto Amfleet trucks.
That N-5 SEPTA EMU with a little kitbashing could become a Self propelled Track Geometry Car!

Will definitely grab a Phase II F40PH in Amtrak.
Bummed that there is absolutely ZERO love for RTA or Metra in this release. Just like always.
