Awesome, awesome work! It is great to see you guys taking it to the next level as well as encouraging each other. Keep up the great work, it makes me glad that I started the site.
Definitely one of the truest statements that can be made. This is something that I have been learning in my endeavors with custom painting and building.

Glad you started it!
Ty for the encouragement. I have quite a fleet of Amfleets so it's taking a bit, but glad the project is in full swing now. Amfleet II's are being worked on now.
WHEELSET ADVICE: As Walthers states in the instruction manual, you must lube the axles. But going a bit further, if you paint the wheels or chalk weather the underbody.... make SURE the treads are spotless and shiny. One dab of paint that leaked onto the tread WILL slow these cars down considerably. After a break-in, shiny clean treads and proper lube, the cars roll MUCH better. Not free-rolling but not being dragged either. Listen to Walthers in regards to the lube and add the tread tidbit as well, it DOES work.

Why yes, that IS a safety card in the cafe car, as they are usually stuck between the table and windows

Neat detail! Is that a decal? Something else that they put in the windows is the Amtrak Connect wifi sticker. I am pretty sure I have a picture if you want me to dig it out.

Beautiful work on that interior mod Tom! Yes, sadly those seats are all molded in, so they are a challenge to take out. At least the centre is hollow, so I found that with a chisel blade (and some patience and a steady hand!), they're not *too* bad to remove. I took a slightly different approach with mine. Wishing to be frugal, I decided to re-use the existing coach seats to form the booths. After cutting them off and smoothing the floor, I filled the gaping holes that were left by the seats, and placed them back in to the car in booth-like arrangements. I then made the tables from styrene sheet and rod, and assembled them all. It was not a quick process, but it worked out pretty well. Obviously the real booth seating should not be as tall and divided as the seats are, but I'm not too fussed about it (this Amtrak stuff being only a secondary dabble for me), and once painted up they look the part. One issue with re-using the seats, though, is that there aren't quite enough to do 4 booths at one end and 3 at the other. So I left some suitable spaces for wheelchair users, to make sure the "accessible" signs on the outside were accurate! For painting, I attempted to match the booth look a little more by painting the white framing around the blue seats. It looks a little rougher in the close-up photos than it does in person, but especially once the car is together and the interior lights are on, I think it looks pretty good. So to get right to it, here are some photos of the modded interior, both opened up and viewed in through the windows with the lights on.

Great work, love it!!!
I gotta agree with you, Kyle nailed the A-I coach seat color down. Any luck with the marker lights?

I will echo everyone else on here, great work! The shots from the outside looking in look very neat.
Speaking of Kyle, he's missing the party! Someone has to get him over here, his work would be a welcome contribution.

I told Kyle about this site, I have to remind him.
Hehe I would love to do a few Phase III A-II's for the Broadway Limited with their red interiors. Bring on the 10-6's and Slumbercoaches!

Late to the party but I'm here! I was following this post thanks to Tom's heads up. Thanks for the flattering comments about the amfleet work. As my first contribution I'll echo everyone else work by sharing my Cafe interior. Thanks Tom for reaching out and motivating me to complete this project in addition to sparing me from allot of tedious work (I had planned to scratch build the booths which is why it was taking me so long to get started).

Kyle, welcome to the forum! It's good to see you here. Hopefully you find it to be a good resource for modeling as well as a good community of modelers. Excellent work on the Amfleet cafe interior. All three of you guys have really improved your cafes with accuarate interiors. Kyle, you have also been busy with AEM-7AC's recently, have you not?

Kyle, you have also been busy with AEM-7AC's recently, have you not? Very much so! I have one more to go but I misplaced my spare grab irons (I lost some of the originals). I'm holding out until I come across them again. My avatar has a pic of the most recent 948. Thanks for the welcome guys! Outside of MRR I've been fairly busy. I'll try and check this forum as much as I can but it does seem to be a great resource. I can also feel free to share my other passenger projects for the other passenger carriers that I model! Kyle

Yes, this board is open to all passenger and commuter modeling, not just Amtrak. Also, if you think of a section that you would like to see added, don't hesitate to ask me. That is how the Canada section came about, and that section has seen some of our best work on the forum.
