Believe Amtrak learned early that silver trucks were a maintance cost to be rid of.
ATSF was very picky about their image for the Chief and Super Chief,it was not
unusal for them to clean/repaint the trucks when a set turned at Chicago/Los Angeles.
Including sleepers interchanged from Eastern RR's.

Now I can repaint all of my Viewliner I trucks black except for 1,that I will leave silver.
(the 1 car the shop forgot about!)

Tmurray is correct here (PS welcome to the forum!)

I believe ATSF also did a mid-route wash in Albuquerque as well. That train was pure class right until the end.

They also tried this on the refurbished Superliners coming out of the Grove with the new Phase IVb livery.

It didn't last long lol.
