Anybody know anything about this paint scheme? This is the only picture I've seen of it, it was taken in Chicago in 1971. I'm curious if decals are available for these.

I'm pretty sure that was the first locomotive painted in an Amtrak scheme. It was basically the locomotive that they painted for A-day May 1, 1971 when Amtrak took over passenger rail in America. I'm not sure if any subsequent locomotives were painted in that scheme.

Interesting, I wonder if any other units made it into this scheme. Its a really neat combination if PC and BN. I'd almost like to build one.

Believe that was a 1 and DONE shot by PC,was PRR 5716A,then PC 4316,was Amtk 322,then Amtk 461, when the 3rd batch of F-40phR's went online.

That's good to know, I'll have to look up that unit. I was thinking PRR by the lift rings and grabs on the nose.

That's a nice looking build. I guess I never even considered painting it like that instead of decals. I was really hoping to see that someone had decals for it cause I kinda suck at painting.

You can now print out custom decals on a high end printer, using decal paper you can buy at the LHS,Walters,Micro-Mark,and some of the "Craft" stores(Michels,Hobby Lobby). You need a decent Graphics program on your computer to design and create the decal.

I've heard of this and it definitely interests me as I will eventually have a bunch of freelance stuff to make. Any of you guys ever try it?

I've heard of this and it definitely interests me as I will eventually have a bunch of freelance stuff to make. Any of you guys ever try it? I have used Micro-Mark's custom decal paper on this project: acmodels.boards.net/thread/93/ho-amtrak-mow-250-pickupOverall it worked well and I was pleased. The two drawbacks are: a) you can't print white without a special printer and b) the decal paper is a little thicker than screen printed professional stuff. For these reasons, if there is a commercially available set available I would say that is the better option, but it is still a good option to fill in for decals that are not commercially made.
