If you have an idea or suggestion about how to make this forum better, please post it here!
I was thinking about expanding the title to "Passenger & Commuter Modelers" to include pre-Amtrak modelers. What do you think?

ATTENTION: I made two changes this morning:
1. I added Canada to the modeling regions
2. In each region I added two sub-topics: Amtrak-era and pre-Amtrak. DON'T WORRY, THE PRE-AMTRAK SECTION IS NOT GONE, IT IS JUST IN WITH THE MODELING REGIONS.

Maybe down the "road" a bit,a BASIC maintance topic and DCC conversion topic. Some of the OLDER models will need help to get running or converted to DCC.

I would suggest a "Welcome-new members section" so we can all list out names, occupations, locations, likes, dislikes, etc.......of course on a voluntary basis.
Nearly every other forum I belong to has such a section.

Also....where does one post completed projects, in progress projects, questions and answers, etc. Looks as if you defiantly need more categories.

Acela,
I became enthusiastic when I saw the pre-Amtrak category yesterday. Then today I saw the change you made. Respectfully, it seems that by putting a "Pre-Amtrak" sub-category into each region.......you're fragmenting this forum into smaller and smaller pieces.
Only my opinion, but by having just one Pre-Amtrak section, modelers will benefit as often times with pre-Amtrak passenger railroading there was a lot of service overlap and equipment exchanges.
IE: The Southwind was jointly operated by: The Pennsy (north), the L&N (south), ACL and FEC (southeast). So if a modeler is going to post a topic on the Southwind........which "region category" would be appropriate to post the thread on?
Although I model the ACL, SCL, and New Haven's equipment, I always perk up whenever I see a CB&Q, Santa Fe, New York Central, or VIA passenger rail related topic posted on the other forums.
I likely sound a bit selfish, but imho the Pre-Amtrak subcategories might be better patronized as one category with more modelers collectively contributing to it insted of the current fragmented setup.
Just my thoughts.

Also....where does one post completed projects, in progress projects, questions and answers, etc. Looks as if you defiantly need more categories. One would post their projects, questions, etc. Under their respective region. For example, if somome was modeling the Amtrak Cascades they would post it under West. Tell me how you guys like tbis setup. I could split it by RR, but like Antonio said, I don't want the forum to get to "fragmented" Also, should I split it by scale?

Antonio, I understand what you mean. I'll change it back.

Another change: I changed the title from Amtrak & Commuter Modeling to Passenger & Commuter modeling. I did this so pre-Amtrak guys don't feel excluded.

So far so good in my opinion. Like was mentioned before, don't fragment it too much. Leave Amtrak as Amtrak, pre, post or what ever.
I would add a miscellaneous passenger area for things such as private cars, tourist operations, freelance equipment, etc. Things that don't quite "fit" into the other categories. Other than that, all looks good so far.
The last thing you want (and a few forums I go to are like this) is there are DOZENS of categories and sub categories....it gets too confusing to find or contribute anything. If you feel the need to add them in the future, then I would do it then.

Maybe make an area for Electronic projects like DCC, Lighting, Etc. I have a few topics I might write how to's on such as adding DCC to a Fleischmann ICE, Amtrak F40 Strobe Lights and Ditch Lights, Etc.

Did the Amtrak only board go missing??
I could have swore I seen one here someplace??
If you removed it, I think an Amtrak only section is a good idea as a quick, easy reference to any and all Amtrak builds, instead of sorting through all the regions to find something. Just another idea!!
