www.walthers.com/exec/page/fallen_flagsI would also like to point out that Walthers has just announced smaller pike-sized passenger trains: Erie-Lackawanna =D Missouri Pacific D&H Rio Grande Nickel Plate Road Looks like this project went bust. According to the Walthers website these are all listed as cancelled. Dang shame, as I was all in on D&H and EL...I hope that Walthers decides to do these as their yearly name train (Phoebe Snow possibly?). I don't want to speculate the cancellation was due to low reservations from dealers but I suspect some other things in play might be going on....i.e. China devaluing it's currency again.

It can be a whole host of reasons, from a backlog of shipments due to the port strike in Long Beach/LA, internal politics in China, scheduling the production run, lack of space on the container ships, to Factory Owners in China just being "picky" on what they run. However, the RR's mixed both LW and HW cars on these trains, just look around at what's avaible new or used at a swap meet or off E(vil)Bay,and create something close. By using the Walters Ads as a guide. When LIRR bought LW cars from other RR's,to allow the retirement of the ex-PRR parlors, they just inspected the car, maybe a quick patch of reporting marks, and put the car in service in the former owners paint scheme

Ugh unfortunately (much to my own dismay too) this project is cancelled. There weren't enough pre-orders to justify production. (Yea ...I know Tom

There are unconfirmed rumors that Walters has "canned" the run of the SFO Chief due out this year, seems like the "1954" version of the El-Cap is still "proceeding"(this is the pre-high level car version.) What is unknown if it's a lack of pre-orders,or if there are "Factory" based problems in China, that have burned Athearn,Atlas, and other smaller model RR suppliers in the past. There's still some fallout from the Hanjin Bankruptcy. Other models due this year are having delivery dates "slipping" later into the year from the original announced dates. If there's politics involved, believe it's in China for the moment. Seems that a"hands on" approach like what Rapido is doing with the second factory in China is needed, that was 1 of the reasons given for Athearn,Atlas, and others having problems with production runs........

I wish I had my hook at Walthers, but yes it is canceled. I do not think this is a popularity issue as Santa Fe always seems to sell, but I am out of the loop on this one.

Looks like Walthers is sticking with what works for them. The new name train for 2017 is the C&O George Washington. www.walthers.com/products/name-trains/george-washingtonJust one of these days, Walthers will listen to what their customers want. I can't imagine there are hobbyist waiting to bust the doors down for more C&O versus newly tooled Horizon cars, Viewliners, & modern day commuter cars. What would have blown my socks off though would have been if Walthers had announced the Phoebe Snow, or Silver Meteor but alas, another year, another wait.

I usually hate to be a critic of whatever new product I don't want, but <YAWN>.
C'mon...the Pere Marquette stuff has been blowing out at Tag Trains for months. It's at least a 1960's-era train, but I agree with rails4dmv. There can't be many folks who lust for this. We're still waiting for the Metroliner cab car, which I would have thought the real goal of tooling the Metroliner. And I don't think the Pere Marquette sold as well as the Metroliner, judging by their respective availabilities on the 'bay.
We're still waiting for correctly-lettered Amtrak high-level cars. And aren't there other 60s/70s-era passenger trains that might have better appeal? What about some N&W cars? They could be used for peoples' 611 excursion consists, the Orland Park Cannonball, and some N&W intercity trains. Just spitballin' here, but Walthers really seems to know how to hit a pop fly out better than a home run.

Makes me wonder if they really looked at their survey results from last year. At least it is somewhat pike sized then the PM train, and has a "set off" Sleeper at Ashland Ky for another train.
Amtrak wound up with the ex CNW LD gallery cars(the 400 ?),that would be a good train to do,as a CNW train or Amtrak train.

If Walters does a "undec" version of the "G W" cars, you could paint them in DRGW Passenger car scheme to use on their "Secondary" passenger services as the "Yampa Valley Mail" that ran from Denver to Steamboat Springs and Craig Co. Other than DRGW's share of CZ cars, the other cars were part of a "cancelled" C&O order of passenger cars.
If Walters ever runs the "Phoebe Snow" OBS cars as part of the EL's Phoebe Snow or a LIRR's Cannonball to Montauk, (set in the late '60's era, before the "end" of steam heated cars) in MTA colors and a pair of C-420's(L-2's) on the head end. The 2 "Phoebe Snow" OBS became LIRR's,then Metro North's "Office Cars" used on inspection trains. At present, the AHM/IHC/Rivarossi LW OBS car is the closest model to the prototype

MODEL SUGGESTIONS 1) 1971-1981 auto-train 2) 1960s SEABOARD 'SILVER METEOR 3) RTG-RTL Turboliners However if Walthers would spend more time just "finishing" up the trains they produce we would have most of the Amtrak fleet available. For example: Where are the ATSF Hilevels in phase 3 and 4?? Where are the "REGAL" sleepers for the 1971-81 era SUPER CHIEF/SW LMTD?? (also useful for auto-train) They have done none of the CAP LMTD, UP Cities Fleet, ATSF SF CHIEF, or C&O train cars in Amtrak. The MAINLINE Baggage Lounge (WAB/NW/Ap1) was only a phase 1 car, they did it in ph3. PLEASE less fakes: heritage fleet in PH4, EVERYTHING in UP!!Headend SCL Budd stainless cars, but not the PS 52 seat coach?? My $0.02.
